ME NOW...baby later
The ME NOW...baby later campaign got some attention on July 26, thanks to a report about the campaign's billboards by Melissa Vega of News 4 San Antonio.
The report featured 17 year old Destiny DeLeon, a ME NOW Teen Ambassador and incoming Senior high school student, talking about the importance of focusing on her future and postponing parenthood. Destiny did an amazing job, explaining why the campaign message is so important to her.
ME NOW...baby later is a campaign developed by the Healthy Futures Alliance and supported by Metro Health's Project WORTH. The campaign's message for teens is to wait to be a parent. Adolescence is a time to dream and learn and have fun. The teen years are about discovering who you want to be.
The report focused on the positive message of ME NOW, and how much progress has already been made in San Antonio, with a significant drop in teen births each year for the last few years. Still, there were over 2,700 births to teens in 2012, so more progress is needed.

Man to Man: Symposium
As we work to reduce teen and unplanned pregnancy, many people think first of females, since it is females who actually get pregnant. However, men are clearly important to this issue, and men are affected by unplanned pregnancies, to be sure. Clearly, men's health is critical to our families' health and to our community's well-being.
Many thanks to our friends at the Health for Men program at University Health System for the invitation to a day-long symposium, Man to Man. Please see the invitation (below), and we hope to see you there!

Syphilis in San Antonio
San Antonio has recently experienced a soaring rate of syphilis, and too many babies have been born affected by this disease. Syphilis is often forgotten, or underestimated, but it remains an important public health issue.
Thanks to our friends at San Antonio Metro Health for all their work to detect, treat, and prevent this devastating disease. Please see the invitation below to the August 19 Report to the Community: Syphilis in San Antonio:
