 Heather & Jason welcome
Bailey Brummett! Bailey was born in the third week of January weighing 7 lbs 5 oz. She has been having a lot of fun learning about life and hanging out with her sister. I have been enjoying every moment with her and can't believe how fast she is growing and seriously, I don't know where the time goes. Having two little ones at home has been enlightening to the title "stay at home mom (dad)." I can't believe how you can start your day with a plan and good intentions of getting organized and being productive and somehow you wake up, barely get time to get ready yourself and then the next thing you know, it's 5pm and your house is a mess!! We are now getting in a little better routine and I have started back in the clinic seeing patients this past week.

Thank you Diane!! Although we will miss her and all of her Pilates coordinating, we are excited for Diane to have an opportunity to utilize her home decorating skills full time. Although she won't be in the office working, she will be keeping up with her Pilates classes. So we still get to see her:) Thank you Diane for your service to the clients and patients for the past 2 years... we are grateful! |
Lorel completing the ropes adventure course in flagstaff -- Awesome!! "Here is your saving grace, It's......Not.....Too...... Late! It's just March, by taking action now, making small adjustments and getting back on track you can still get where you want to be. So whatever goals you have made, no matter what promises you feel are broken, you can get back on course and you don't have to do it alone. Enlist the help of a professional, friend or family member and let's get it done!" Lorel Stevens, LMT, Reiki Master (about massage)

Location: Stonecreek The Golf Club
4435 East Paradise Village Parkway SouthPhoenix, AZ 85032
Last year, through the wonderful support of all our generous sponsors and golf participants of the 2012 MPC Golf Tourney at Karsten last June, we are excited to announce that we raised a total of $9,461 for the scholarship in Michael's name.
Since 2001, the Endowment has grown to $48,635.94, allowing a scholarship of $1750 to be awarded each year to a student of Mechanical Engineering. The Endowment is through the University of Arizona and was initiated by Michael's employer Sargent Controls & Aerospace through the work of Wayne Schramm. Michael would be smiling, as he loved being an engineer for them.
We are a small but powerful group of family and friends, who have joined together to make a statement that we care about our educational system. The Chowaniec/Brummett family, including Kathy, Mike, Heather & Jason, along with our two granddaughters, reach out a hand of thanks. It is through your generosity and outreach, that we have found our purpose. We are looking forward to making 2013 another successful year, and continue to grow the scholarship.
Thank You,
From the Chowaniec/Brummett Family

Meet Marianne... and see what she has to say about Pilates at Balanced PT...
"I began taking Pilates at Balanced Physical Therapy over a year ago at the urging of my cousin. She raved about the class and said she was "addicted" to it. My initial consultation was thorough and informative. It was a little disconcerting for me to go from my usual high-energy aerobic exercises and weight circuit training to Pilates and at first I wasn't sure it was for me. However, under adept instruction from Ade, the classes became harder and I began to enjoy a marked difference in my posture, strength and flexibility. The class is continually changing and we are always working toward accomplishing a new particularly challenging pose on the machine. The therapists, instructors and staff are amazing, knowledgeable people and I would highly recommend giving Pilates at Balanced Physical Therapy a try!" Polestar Pilates Instructor Course
We are excited to announce that our new group of Pilates instructors-to-be have gotten off to a great start! They have just completed a 16-hour Principles Course (March 9-10) and will be with us over the next year. They have 6 more 16-hour weekends and then internships. We hope you can assist their journey in the future -- we will be offering solo Pilates sessions at discounted rates in exchange for helpful feedback for the intern. We will keep you posted on their progress!! Pictured Above: Amy Broekemieier, PT is instructing
about functional anatomy and its relationship to breathing and core control. Great for efficient movement and performance with all activities in life and sports! (About Pilates Instructor Course)

Pilates is INTELLIGENT MOVEMENT... Ever wonder why after the age of 40 you start to feel stiffer, sorer, with less energy? Yes, physiology keeps changing and we have continued changes in our muscle and skeletal systems, but you can make a difference to age "smoothly" and keep flexible, strong and healthy. A consistent Pilates exercise routine completed 1,2 or 3 times per week gives you the FREEDOM of movement in your neck, back, shoulders, legs and ankles... your whole body. This is way different than just running, lifting weights, or doing the same sport. In Pilates, you are moving all of your joints to complete all ranges of motion in a safe way and you are thinking about how you are moving the entire session. You learn NEW movements and movement patterns to keep your body challenged - hence RESULTS.
You have the freedom to move and you feel like a dancer or the coordinated athlete. And bonus -- Pilates works the "core" the entire time. And double bonus -- in addition to strength and flexibility, your posture improves. And from there it just gets better and better -- freedom in your neck and back, stronger bones, healthier eating, stronger lungs, increased leg flexibility for tying shoes and arm/spine flexibility for reaching overhead effortlessly. Keep your spine health...
"If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young."
Joseph Pilates
As a physical therapist.... some of the patients we see didn't realize that if they had just kept up with a simple Pilates exercise routine, they would not be needing so much assistance now. So many let work and life get in the way and the next thing they knew, they were 65 and ready to retire, but couldn't really move like they wanted. They didn't have the flexibility, strength, or balance to complete all the fun activities or the simple chores and projects around the house with minimal effort. They all struggled and either couldn't do it or they injured themselves. Most felt that the inability to move like they wanted just happened "overnight." As physical therapists, it is so hard to see patients struggle with function. Although we enjoy getting patients back to function, we would really like to see them not have to struggle. The saying, "if you don't use it, you lose it" is true, but as we age, we need to actually use it more! We simply can't think that we are going to be able to keep doing activities around the house the SAME for the rest of our life without a decline. Our bodies need a "stimulus" to help "beat" the decline in strength and flexibility. If we always do the same things, then we might still be able to do some of them, but it will be a struggle to do them. Why not keep independent?
Why not prepare now and not struggle!! The science today is amazing.... who knows how long our lives can be, so why not stay active and healthy for as long as we are alive and breathing!
* Mary (pictured in front) you inspire us.... today and always... we love you! |
2 Posture Tips.... Using imagery, think of these tips to better support your spine and overall posture:
1) Put your index fingers behind your ears and under your jaw bone, then imagine you have a dowel that goes from one index finger to the other and gentle tug up to the sky and lengthening the spine all the way to the tail
2) Inhale, and then as you gently exhale, think of your muscles drawing in-and-around to "hug" your spine
