Greetings!
We hope you have spent time appreciating our fall color. The falling leaves mark the beginning of fall hunting season, a time for warm dinners, and for cozy evenings by the fire...And for the many festivities inspired by Halloween. We hope to see you downtown with your family for our annual trick-or-treat event. It's a treat for us to see all the little ghosts and goblins!

Trick or Treat for the DRI Director
TRICK: To always balance work with personal life, make good decisions that are good for most everyone, and know in your heart of hearts that you are doing everything you can.
TREAT: Getting to be a productive part of the community, understanding our downtown and watching it change in positive ways, and meeting and experiencing the caring people in our area.
I look forward to seeing you on Oct. 25 for either the Downtown Trick or Treat or the Pumpkin Glow (or both!) - AND in your costume at the "Haunted" Halloween Howl on Nov. 1.

Streetscape Update:
The Streetscape Committee held a public meeting Sept. 24 to present the configuration for the new Streetscape design to the public and City Council. The committee, comprised of people from the City, DRI, and the Vierbecher Planning and Engineering firm, have been gathering information since April. This presentation is a culmination of the planning phase of the Streetscape. The next phase will be Street Reconstruction.
The committee reaffirmed its decision to have parallel parking on the west side of Brown Street and angled parking on the east side. This configuration allows for wider sidewalks and more slots than would parallel parking on both sides.
City Council action to approve the plan is expected later this fall.

DRI President
Mark Gutteter,
Rhinelander Cafe & Pub This morning I was thinking about the upcoming DRI-sponsored Downtown Trick or Treating, and the Hodag Howl and Hodag auction. Both provide the opportunity to wear a Halloween costume. As I tried on my Doctor's outfit (in preparation for surgery, or fun, you decide), I thought about the "Doctor" as he prepares for surgery, and how he's surrounded by a talented support team that works together for success. My costume fits perfectly, and as I climbed back into my street clothes, I thought about the last two years serving as president for DRI, because there is many parallels. A talented team working toward a common goal, with each volunteer having his or her own role to play, and each volunteer bringing his or her own talents and interests to the "surgical arena," a.k.a. our wonderful Downtown. This fall we will be adding new faces to our team, as some seasoned veterans will be taking a break. We are working on a strategic plan to guide DRI over the next two and three years. Do you have talents, skills, or energy to join our team? We have some key positions to fill, as well as some minor tasks you could help with. Dr. Gutteter would welcome your in put, and suggests that now is the time to join the DRI team.
Your President, Mark Gutteter

Thanks to some of our VIP's
Each year in November we prepare for the election of our new board. This year we are saying "thank you" to three Very Special People: Ray Burgan, Kurt Hildebrand, and Michelle Madl-Soehren. Ray has served the board for many years, assuming the roles of treasurer, chair of PotatoFest, and chair of economic restructuring. Kurt has served as the representative to the parking advisory board and as DRI secretary. Michelle has represented Nicolet College and served on the economic restructuring committee. All three also have served as faithful volunteers at our various events. We value their contributions and know they will step up to volunteer for specific projects in the future. If you are interested in finding out more about how to serve DRI in a leadership role contact Maggie Steffen at 715-362-7374
