To All Coaches

Newsletter

Hey Coaches:

With Game Day 4 just around the corner, we thought we would take this opportunity to issue a few reminders to make sure that your coaching experience - and that of the teams playing after you - is the best it can be.

Start and Finish On Time:
This is the key for successful games, particularly on the more crowded fields where games are back to back to back to back (Robert Crown for example).
If you end your games late, this will impact every other game that comes after yours. So please, be mindful of this.

We know it can be a challenge at the U05 and U06 levels with practice coming first (just ask the coach who came after Commissioner Herzig this past Sunday) - but do know that your extra time cuts into the practice and playing time of the kids who follow.

Substitutions:
These should be made at the proper times: Quarter and half time! Please avoid rolling substitutions as it tends to cause chaos and slow down the pace of the game. The one exception to this, of course, is an injury. If a player gets hurt and needs to be subbed out, by all means, please do so.

Goal Set Up:
If you are Game 1 and your team has responsibility for goal set up, please make sure that they are properly assembled. While you may ask the parents to pick them up and set them up, it is your responsibility as Coach to check them before the game begins to be sure all the pieces are in place.

No matter what, every Coach should do a quick walk of the field and a quick goal check before every game.

Snacks:
Finally, as a follow up to the email sent earlier this week about the state of the fields, please note that while snacks are a long standing tradition with AYSO, they are NOT mandatory. You may decide for your team that there is no half-time or post game snack.
If you are in favor of snacks, please remind the parents to make it something healthy for halftime (fruit is always good). Post game, if you go the snack route, we do encourage you to make it healthy as well.

As always, we hope the season is going well for you and we hope to see you on the Pitch!
