Psalm 91:1-2

Rev. Harbison
There is no better feeling than after walking on a hot summer day to find a bit of shade and cool
breeze to cool off. The Psalmist uses this imagery in describing God as he watches over us. As we walk through life, lots of times we feel the burning of the hot sun on us that is oppressive, that keeps us from enjoying the life we are supposed to lead. The Psalmist reminds us that we are indeed covered by the Most High. We live in the shadow of the Almighty. Through Jesus Christ we can enjoy the life that God calls us to live.

Thanks be to God that we are indeed covered, by the grace and love of Jesus Christ, safe from the oppressive "heat" of a very cruel world. May we ever be mindful of all the good things God does for us through Jesus Chris

Love,
Scott signature

Houston Dragon Academy opens at St. Luke's

St. Luke's is fortunate to have a new tenant in our building! The Houston Dragon Academy is an after-school learning center which teaches children Chinese as a Second Language.  They are leasing the classroom wing of our  part of the building from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on weekdays, and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturdays.  The Academy is recruiting students to expand their attendance.  They are also seeking qualified teachers interested in tutoring children in English reading and writing.  If you or someone you know is interested in a part-time teaching job at the school, contact the Academy, Defeng Wang  (713.858.8768).

The following profile of the Academy was provided by Houston Dragon Academy founder, Cicy Wang Rong:

Instructor Wang Rong is currently teaching at Ball High School and has taught CSL Chinese for seven years. She has had 9 years of Chinese language teaching experience at Hua Xia Chinese School, as well, and is one of the first teachers to partake in AP Chinese education in Houston. Wang also has a Master's Degree from the University of Houston.  Based on different ages and learning attitudes of the children, she adopts different ways to give lessons, genuinely achieving education with students as the foundation, fostering interest and enthusiasm to learn Chinese in children who grew up in America. Under her guidance, the 30+ students who attended AP Chinese exam had a 99% passing rate with a score of 5. Instructor Wang Rong's enthusiastic, patient, yet lively way of teaching is extremely liked and favored by numerous students.

In 2016, In order to make it convenient for children who live in the Medical Center area to learn Chinese, Instructor Wang Rong founded the Houston Dragon Academy, with the hope that the children will learn with joy, mature healthily, and help them realize the hope and dreams in their hearts.

Houston Dragon Academy's is located at 8915 Timberside Drive on the campus of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church with many classrooms and activity rooms, very well equipped facilities, and a playground. The campus is quiet, convenient, and extremely safe.
The course supplies Chinese Language teaching materials Ma Li Ping grade 1-9, Jinan University and AP Chinese,

Learn another language, perceive another world, experience another life!  Houston Dragon Academy is a comprehensive school, that mainly focuses on fostering student's Chinese  learning, as well as preparing for College Admission AP Chinese Examinations.
The school possesses the strength of outstanding educators, and flexible ways of teaching. We love every student, encourage students to learn with joy, and allow parents to feel at ease and be satisfied!  F

A Closing Prayer

O God, walk with us that we might always have perspective about what is truly important in life. Give us purpose and the assurance that we are not alone as we make our decisions and face difficult times and situations. Be the sure road beneath our feet and our companion along the way. Amen..
