Souper Bowl Youth on TV
Last week we learned that KHOU was looking for Souper Bowl of Caring supporters to be a part of a studio audience today. Their local 9:00 a.m. show, Great Day Houston hosted by Deborah Duncan, was featuring a segment about Souper Bowl of Caring and they were looking for folks to be in the audience. Several of our youth were able to attend representing St. Luke's: Cassie & Olivia Harbison, Matthew Garnett, and Rev. Harbison.

Longfellow Teacher Luncheon August 19
 |
| | Longfellow Lunch 2015 |
For nine years St. Luke's has opened it's doors to Longfellow Elementary school (our across the street neighbor) for a teacher/staff luncheon to kick off the fall semester. We are pleased to be able to honor the teachers and staff and say thanks for everything they do for the children in their care during the school year. If you would like to help honor the teachers and support our Evangelism Committee in this project, You can use the sign up sheet in Sunday's bulletin or click here to find out how you can help. Call the church office, Marty Moore, or Linda Wiley for more information.

Do you love the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)? You may want to read Presbyterians Today's blog:
One Church, Many Voices
We received an email in July describing a new blog from the magazine, Presbyterians Today. Here is what they have to say about it: "We are storytellers. We are everyday Presbyterians who want to talk honestly about the future of the church. We are part of a creative team commissioned by 'Presbyterians Today' to ask questions about who's getting a platform to speak and who's not. And this is our canvas. Our blog is a holy place for reflection-a safe place to talk and grow as disciples of Christ. Here you'll find writing, art, videos, and podcasts. Some of it will be bilingual. Some will be collaborative projects, bringing together artist and wordsmith. All of it will push the boundaries of what passes for conversation in the church and will, we hope, inspire us to dream bigger when it comes to the gospel. Our opinions are ours alone, and our thoughts may sometimes be messy. They may make you feel uncomfortable. They are not meant to be the last word. They are an invitation-a love letter to the church we love."

A Closing Prayer
In the beginning was God, and at the end will be God, and in every moment in between, there is God: creating, redeeming, and sustaining. And through Christ, gracious love is poured into our empty souls; through the Spirit, peace becomes the gift we can share with those around us. Thanks be to God. Amen. by Thomas M. Shuman, Bearers and Grace and Justice
