Rev. Harbison
Our psalm this week is the 42nd Psalm. You may recognize it as the "deer" psalm because of it's opening lines which begin a favorite praise song, "As the Deer...".

How fitting this psalm is after all the heartache and tragedy we have endured over the past few months. Flooding and natural disasters in Houston, terrorism in Orlando. Surely we eagerly await for God and God's justice in these troubled times. Let us remember that God is indeed with us as the psalmist says later, "The Lord commands his steadfast love and at night his song is with me."  Indeed the past few months have given us a lot of night and a lot of darkness which makes the goodness in the world hard to see. Yet, even in the night, God is with us as God is with the victims of these tragedies.

That is where our hope lies. Not that life will be easy or that crap won't happen but that God is with us. His song covers us at night, and his never ending love keeps us steady in working toward the light. Thanks be to God.

Love,

Jazz Communion July 3 @ 10 a.m.
All American Picnic Lunch after worship

The Marvin Gaspard Trio
The Marvin Gaspard Trio returns for our July Jazz Communion service. You will be tappin' and clappin' to  the Trio's jazzy tunes and enjoy singing familiar hymns including a rousing rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In" to conclude worship. Jazz Communion is a perfect day to invite a friend to join you for worship and our All American Picnic afterward. Hotdogs with all the trimmings will be served in our Cookie Room along with cookies and ice cream for dessert.

General Assembly - June 18-25

Commissioners and advisory delegates from all 171 PC(USA) presbyteries, along with other participants and observers from around the world, will converge on the Oregon Convention Center (OCC) in downtown Portland for celebrations, deliberations, and inspirations in support of the denomination's biennial gathering. Hosted by the Presbytery of the Cascades and united under the theme "The Hope in Our Calling" from Ephesians 1:18, the General Assembly will include rich worship services, the election of the Moderator, action on a plethora of overtures, and much more. View the proposed docket. More information can be found at: http://oga.pcusa.org/section/ga/222nd-general-assembly-2016. Let us pray for safe travels and prayerful discernment as they consider and deliberate next week.

A Closing Prayer
When tears are our food,
  God comes with a feast.
When fear is our path,
  God brings us courage
When sorrow is our friend,
  God comforts and loves us.
When all hope seems lost,
God is our rock and redeemer.                  by Amy B. Hunter from The Abingdon Worship Annual
