Next week, June 6, Ramadan will begin to be celebrated by roughly 25% of the world's population. We have many Muslim neighbors here in Houston and I'm going to take an opportunity to hope that they have a prayerful and wonderful Ramadan this month.
As Christians, June is kind of a dead period. We really don't have any major holidays during this month, yet as Calvin pointed out, every day is the Lord's day. As our Islamic brethren worship through fasting this month may we show our faith through acts of service and love. There will be opportunities throughout the summer to serve others to show how Christ loves us. I hope you will join me as we worship God through service to others this and every season of the year.

Grace Bags
Looking for a way to respond to people who may ask for help at a stop light or in the parking lot? Pick up a Grace Bag as you leave church on Sunday and keep a couple in your car. Each bag includes crackers, Vienna sausage, fruit cup and a drink along with a list of resources to help with shelter and food. The bags were prepared by our Sunday School class and Drew Mayer's Boy Scout troop.

Jazz Communion July 3 @ 10:00 a.m.
The Marvin Gaspard Trio returns for our July Jazz Communion service. You will be tappin' and clappin' to the Trio's jazzy tunes and enjoy singing familiar hymns including a rousing rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In" to conclude worship. Jazz Communion is a perfect day to invite a friend to join you for worship and our All American Picnic afterward. Hotdogs with all the trimmings will be served in our Cookie Room along with yummy desserts

Houston Area Celebration (HAC)
Houston Area Celebration (HAC) is a high-activity spiritual retreat for high school students at Camp Cho-Yeh on July 8-11. High school youth staff will lead the weekend with guidance from two Presbyterian pastors/leaders (Barbara Retzloff and Dan Akins). Youth will be put in small groups to share and grow as they experience the weekend together. The weekend is ecumenical and intended to help youth determine their next steps in their faith walks. Scholarships are available. Register by June 30 at www.houstonarea celebration.org or contact Bart Henson at 713.680.2138 or email him at bartshenson@gmail.com.

A Closing Prayer
Set us free, O God, from our many sins and failures, that we might feel as though a burden has been lifted and we're breathing free again. Bless all the ways in which you shape our attitudes and lives. Visit us with goodness and give us eyes to see that goodness. Lead us and help us to follow you. Amen. By Robert D. Young from Let Us Pray
