Psalm 104:27-28
   |
 | | Rev. Harbison |

Let the psalmist be the one who reminds us that we have one being to thank for all we have . . . and that is God. We often think that our possessions come from the sweat of our brow. We love our ownership of things.
In a society that is based on consumerism and economic theory, it is easy to forget that the blessings we enjoy come foremost from God. It is God who sustains us, it is God who feeds us, it is God who gives us all that we need.
Maybe we need to read this Psalm and get back a touch of humility. We often like to think we are masters of our destiny and we sustain ourselves through our own cleverness and ingenuity. The Psalmist states it as plainly as possible . . . it's not us, "Silly", it is God. May we always look to Him who blesses and sustains us and may we always remember to give thanksgivings through tithes, offerings and worship to the Lord our God.

A Closing Prayer
O God, when we are anxious, speak to us a word of peace. When we are bewildered about the meaning of life, grant us wisdom and enough light to see one step ahead.  We are dependent upon you; open our eyes that we might see the glimpses of truth that you have for us. Where we are wrong correct us, where we are right confirm us, but give us a sense of adventure and the joy of the journey. Amen.
