Philippians 1:21

Let us remember that the most important job we have is not the one that puts bread on the table. The best things we do in life are not done for money or prestige or another's affirmation. The best thing we do is live our faith.

Paul reminds us that living is Christ. We are called to live as Christ would have us live: forgiving, proclaiming, loving. No matter how good we are at our jobs, no matter how great people say we are, if we fail at these three things we cannot claim to be a success. The road to success lies always with our faithfulness to Jesus Christ.

With this as our guide, let's reprioritize our lives together. What is truly important? What matters or better yet, who matters? These are the questions that should guide us and lead us to the success we strive for in our lives.

Love,

Dear St. Luke's Family,

Marvin Gaspard with
Rev. Dr. Bill Wade &
Rev. Harbison on 1/31/16
There are no words to adequately thank you for the 20th Anniversary Celebration you hosted for me on Sunday, January 31st.  Everything was beautifully planned and executed; and I thank all of you for making the day an extraordinary experience.  I was overwhelmed by your generosity and love, and humbled by your many expressions of appreciation.  My family and friends were deeply touched by your outpouring of love and have expressed their gratitude toward you for honoring me in such a special way.

As I mentioned in my remarks on January 31st, a twenty-year journey does not happen alone.  It is a partnership in which all of you have shared.  St. Luke's is a warm, welcoming and affirming congregation with a strong presence in our neighborhood and a heart within our community.  Our mission is "To proclaim the Word of God in Jesus Christ, nurture and support one another, and serve the community".  I believe we do that very well!  I am so proud to be your Music Director; and I thank you for honoring my twenty years of service to our wonderful church.

With gratitude,
Marvin Gaspard

A Closing Prayer

Redeem us, O God, from inadequate process.
Restore us, O God, to a full gospel of unconditional love.
Forgive us, O God, for honoring law over gospel.
Be patient, O God, for the unextravagant nature of our love
Enable us, O God, to see each person as a child of yours
Startle us, O God, with your unremitting compassion.
And as we follow the Christ, may we experience anew the cadence of the music.
Of his light and love. So be it. Amen.                           by Raymond Hearn, from Let Us Pray
