Rev. Harbison
Ugh! It's November again. When I think of November it should be thoughts of football, turkey, family, cool breezes, and falling leaves. All I can think of, however, is stewardship. Yes, the "S" word.  It's a time when I have to get out of my comfort zone and ask you to give money, time, and talents to our congregation. It makes me, for lack of a better word, feel icky.

It shouldn't be that way though. Stewardship is not just about money or making people feel uncomfortable. It's about looking at what God has blessed you with and sharing back to God in response to those blessings. It's about examining your life and placing priorities.  It's about sharing God's love.

I'm going to try to look at Stewardship differently, not just a chore that I have to do every November, but an opportunity to talk about what's really important in our congregation, in our lives and in our community. Instead of feeling icky, I need to focus on feeling excited about hearing what God is doing in each of your lives and how you are responding to that. Thanks be to a God that gives us opportunities to worship and serve.

Have a blessed week,

Thanksgiving Lunch
November 22

Join us after worship on November 22 and celebrate Thanksgiving with your St. Luke's family. Our meal will be provided by Pappas Catering and the good cooks of St. Luke's will provide desserts.  Don't forget  to bring along some non-perishable food items for CCSC which will serve as our table  decorations. Sign up on Sundays or call the church office to RSVP.

We have a lot to be thankful for at St. Luke's, including the generosity of our members. Our Thanksgiving lunch is just such an example.  Mary Chism, who passed away in 2003, left a gift to the church to provide for church celebrations, including meals together. We all will enjoy her generosity with Thanksgiving lunch on November 22. Thank you, Mary!

Dinner Club
November 17 @ 6:30 p.m.

Dinner Club Our next Dinner Club gathering will be at 6:30 p.m.,Tuesday, November 17, at Tapesters, 4520 Beechnut @ Newcastle. Since this may be a new restaurant for most of us, a visit to their website may help. The menu items are described as tasty comfort food, with hamburgers, sandwiches, chicken fried steak, salads and more, all with an emphasis on fresh and from scratch.  Join us for fellowship and fun as we discover a new restaurant together.  Hope to see you there!

Reformation Sunday

Jack Egan
As part of our Reformation Sunday celebration October 25, Jack Egan performed several selections for our worship service. Jack is a sophomore at St. Thomas Episcopal High School, and a member of The St. Thomas' Episcopal School Pipe Band.  The band has grown to become one of the world's most respected juvenile pipe bands, winning North American Championships in 2003 and 2008 and Juvenile Pipe Band World championships in 1985, 1995, 1998, 2004, and 2006.  The band also has two CD recordings. Jack is one of three siblings and loves sports.  We look forward to bringing him back to St. Luke's.

A Closing Prayer

Oh God,
who alone can probe the depths of the heart,
you hear the prayer of the humble
and justify the repentant sinner.
Grant us the gift of humility,
that we may see our own sins clearly
and refrain from judging our neighbor.

We make our prayer through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

One God, forever and ever. Amen.
