October 16 is World Food Day. I hope that we as a congregation will take this opportunity to remember the less fortunate and hungry in our world and donate to the food ministry at St. Luke's. As I type this there is no food in our food basket. Let's make it our goal to fill it this Sunday. All food is taken to Christian Community Service Center and is used in their emergency food pantries. Help us make a difference in the lives of members of our community and support this vital part of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. We also need Grace Bag supplies. Please bring cans of Vienna sausage, snack bars, juice boxes and small bottles of water to church with you on Sunday.
Jazz Communion is this Sunday and it's always a special part of our congregational life. Come join us as we celebrate God's love for all through the wonderful music of New Orleans. Hope to see you there.
Have a blessed week,

Jazz Communion October 18 @ 10:00 a.m.
Join us for worship on Sunday and be a part of this popular tappin' and clappin' worship service. We will have communion, a message from Rev. Harbison, and enjoy the music of the Marvin Gaspard Trio, our Chancel Choir, and St. Luke's Ringers. Sing old familiar hymns and songs with a jazzy edge then conclude worship with "When the Saints Go Marching In". We're saving you a seat!

Youth Mission Project October 18
Don't forget to bring standard size pillowcases with you to church on Sunday. Our youth will take them to the Youth Rally at Spring Branch Presbyterian Church. Their mission project is to make dresses to send to girls in Africa through the organization Little Dresses for Africa. Donations are also welcome! Make checks payable to: "Little Dresses for Africa" and bring them on Sunday too.

Emergency Services at CCSC Volunteers Needed!
 Do you have a heart for service? A firm yet compassionate spirit? If these qualities describe you, consider a volunteer position in the reception or food pantry area at Christian Community Service Center's Emergency Services-Central program! Opportunities are available on both weekdays and weekends. A typical volunteer shift is between three or four hours long, but there is flexibility and an excellent team atmosphere! Thorough training provided! To find out if this is a good fit for you, please contact Kate Gallup at 713-961-3993, ext. 211 or kgallup@ccschouston.org.

A Closing Prayer
Almighty God,
you have taught us through Christ that love fulfills the law. May we love you with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength,
and may we love our neighbor as ourselves;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.
