Rev. Harbison

A couple of things I wanted to go over with you with this week in today's Wednesday Word:

One is the concept of vacation church.  I know we like dressing in our Sunday best and that St.. Luke's is very tolerant about casual church wear.  During these dog days of summer I hope that everyone will come and dress down. If you like to wear shorts, wear shorts, if you have a favorite t-shirt, why not?  Worship is not about what we wear but about our corporate experiences together in worshiping and praising God as revealed in Christ. So don't be shy! Dress for success and come and enjoy worship each Sunday.

The second thing I want to mention is what a wonderful start to our raffle ticket sale we had last week. Thanks to your generosity we raised almost $1,000 selling tickets on our first Sunday. We are going to raise more! Support our youth and please buy raffle tickets. Even better, if you work at a place that has lots of traffic or if you've bought your co-workers candy or cookies, take a book of tickets and sell for our youth. They deserve all the support we can give them.

Thank you again for all you do as a congregation for me. Your prayers and support are a blessing.

Love,

Christian Community Service Center's Back to School program has helped disadvantaged students since 1986. Last year Back to School helped prepare over 6,500 students for school with the help of over 650 volunteers and support from donors. A $45 donation will provide school supplies and a clothing/shoe voucher for one child. Make your donation to St. Luke's and we will send it on to CCSC. Please note that the contribution is for "Back To School". You can also donate directly to CCSC online at www.ccschouston.org. To find out more about how you can help click HERE.

Little Free Library #37 Dedicated July 10

Last Friday Houston's 37th Little Free Library was dedicated and opened to serve the neighborhood surrounding the church. Thanks go out to St. Luke's members, Kathleen and Michael Kuznicki, who were instrumental in installation and coordinating the project between our church and the Residents Association at Bayou Manor. The Residents Association purchased and constructed the library and the church provided a spot to install it outside our sanctuary.

In addition to Rev. Harbison, Sheryl Callahan, President and CEO of Brazos Presbyterian Homes, Inc. and Donald Perkins, Chief of Staff for City Councilman Larry Green, were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony and Mr. Perkins presented a Certificate of Recognition for the Little Free Library from City of Houston District K. Children from Bethany United Methodist Church Weekday School were also present to kick-off the new library.

A Closing Prayer

We confess how often it is true of us, O God, that when difficult times come and we are trapped in the little worlds of our own making, we never look up to see the signs of hope you hold for us.  Restore to us, we pray, the vision of new life with new beginnings and the promise of your grace in the strength of your love; through Jesus Christ, Lord of life and love. Amen.
