Rev. Harbison

Beginning this coming Sunday and for the following week we have an opportunity to make Easter something more than Easter eggs and pretty dresses. We can make Easter what it has been historically in the church, the most holy and spiritual of holidays. To do this however, takes work.

I challenge each and every person to prepare for Easter through study, worship and service. There are several opportunities before Easter at St. Luke's. Consider using the Lenten Study Guide during Holy Week. The readings, from the Gospel of John,  become more intense as they follow the events of Holy Week. Please try to attend as many of our worship services as possible, culminating in our wonderful Easter worship. As for service, volunteer to help with our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m.

There's a great song that reminds us to "Prepare ye the way of the Lord". May you prepare to fully accept the grace of Christ this Easter season.

More than 60 years ago, American Christians joined together to respond to the worldwide devastation caused by World War II. Recognizing what a difference we can make when we work together in Christ's name, Presbyterians have continued to support One Great Hour of Sharing ever since. Our gifts support the ministries of Self Development of People, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and the Presbyterian Hunger Program.  The OGHS collection will be taken on Easter Sunday.

Men's Clothing Needed!

CCSC's Emergency Services Central program is in need of gently used clothing items, especially for men. Many of their clients have been affected by recent crisis and need help to keep themselves and their families well-clothed while they get back on their feet. The current area of greatest need is men's clothing, especially pants, shirts, and belts. There is also a shortage of plus sized women's clothing, shoes of all types, and backpacks or reusable cloth bags for homeless clients.

Donations can be dropped off at CCSC, 3434 Branard, near the intersection of West Alabama and Edloe, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.or Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. A tax deductible receipt will be provided.  For more information contact Courtney Hagen at emergency1@ccschouston.com. or call 713.961.3993.

Donate New Blankets & Throws

Bring your blankets
to St. Luke's

Donate new blankets and throws to keep seniors warm! St. Luke's member, Kathleen Kuznicki, is working with the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work Alumni on a community outreach project. They are collecting new blankets and throws for seniors who live in Sava Senior Care's Westchase Health and Rehabilitation Center. The goal is to collect 200! You can drop off your donations at St. Luke's during normal business hours or on Sunday mornings. If you have any questions, please contact Kathleen at kuznicki@houstonretirement.org.

                Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 4 @ 11:00 a.m.

Easter Egg Hunt 2
Be a part of the fun on April 11 by volunteering to hide eggs and to show our guests to the age-appropriate hunting grounds for their special little ones. We also need eggs to be stuffed with treats and gift cards or prepared Easter baskets for prizes.  If you can help, sign up on Sunday morning or call the church office, 713.667.6531. Thanks!

A Closing Prayer

Holy God, Creator of Life, in our darkened valleys, you bring light;
in our crumbling communities, you build your kingdom;
our barren lives are renewed by your love.
Jesus Christ, Mourner of the Dead,
by your tears you take away our pain;
with your voice, you call us to new life;
through your death, you shatter all our fears of dying.
Holy Spirit, Breath of God,
you live in every corner of our souls; you bind us to God with your loving presence;
you breathe God's peace into our sin-torn lives.
God in Community, Holy in One,
Hear our hearts today and every day,

through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen
