ARBOR DAY IS COMING!
Killingworth Women's Organization
Gregory Bousquet Holiday Wish Drive
Each year, in honor of a local young man who was accidentally killed in a drive by shooting, the KWO collects names of townspeople who would like to put presents under the tree for their kids or grandkids, but do not have the means. This list is distributed to the town for help.
This year, $2370.00 in gift cards and 13 gifts were collected for 97 children. Each parent on the list was able to receive $35 worth of gift/gift cards for each child and each grandparent received $25 per grandchild.
Women's Club of Madison
Holiday happenings
The Women's Club of Madison made a few people very happy this holiday season! 177 letters were responded to those writing to Santa. An adopted Vet family had a wonderful Christmas provided by the Club members. A tree to support the Arts at the Wadsworth reminded everyone of our support to Domestic Violence Prevention Support! RJ's Julia's Booksellers in Madison offered Civic Organizations a chance to showcase their Club wrapping for a cause of their choice! A very busy but wonderful holiday season in LIVING THE VOLUNTEER SPIRIT! THANK YOU!

CONSERVATION PARTNERSHIP IDEAS

ACTrees

Currently the only conservation partnership is with ACTrees through which you can plant a tree, make a donation or be involved in an event. Together, members have planted over 15 million trees in cities across the country, with help from 5 million volunteers.

The two local member organizations in Connecticut are Knox Parks Foundation in Hartford @ 860-951-7694 (www.knoxparks.org) and Urban Resources Initiative in New Haven @ 203-432-657 (www.urbanresourceinitiative.org). Please visit www.actrees.org for additional information.

ARBOR Day on April 25, 2014

Participation deadline is March 17th for 4th Grade Foresters USA

and adopting a 4th grade class room. www.fourthgradeforestersusa.com

The 4th Grade Foresters Project has four major goals:
1.To revitalize observation of Arbor Day in America's schools on the Official Arbor day in CT.
2.To send every 4th Grader home with a tree of their own to Plant and care for.
3.To support employment of workers with disabilities.(Each Tree is individually packaged for distribution by workers with disabilities.)
4.To bring schools, community service organizations, businesses, and private individuals together to have a direct positive impact on the urban forests of their communities.

The cost to provide a tree to a Fourth grader includes:
*An individually packaged 12" to 18" Norway Spruce tree recommended for growth in CT for $1.79 per tree.
* A bag tag supplied for each tree featuring planting and care instructions and we can have them attach information about GFWC/CT and your Club Name to the tree.
* We will be provided with media kits to send information to our local media.

This is a win-win project that encompasses Conservation, Education, Home Life and Public Relations.

ANOTHER GREAT IDEA
The National Wildlife Federation offers a unique opportunity for clubs to honor the life of a treasured club sister or immediate family member who has passed by giving a Memorial Tree Sponsorship. Their memory is carried forward in a growing, beautiful tree planted in the United State where it is most needed to benefit the environment. A personalized certificate is provided for the family as a keepsake.

Starting at $10 you can Sponsor a Memorial Tree; for $30 you can Sponsor a Memorial Garden, which includes 5 trees. Other sponsorships are available up to $150. For more information, please visit www.nwf.org or http://www.shopnwf.org/Tree-Sponsorships/2780-MEMSP-Memorial-Sponsorships.pro

Homes for the Brave update
Our State Project, Homes for the Brave continues to receive strong support from all over the GFWC/CT. Presently we are raising funds to help upgrade and expand their computer lab services and programs.  All donations are truly welcomed and appreciated.  A check in any amount made payable to GFWC/CT will be set aside for this goal. Your check can be sent to Georgeann Kishner our GFWC/CT treasurer. New Starter Kits are also very welcomed. The veterans value these items when they leave HFTB and start their new beginning. For more information, contact me at bevregan@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support.
