Redbook reminder!
Redbook corrections were distributed to Club Presidents and Board members at the January Board meeting. If you did not receive your copy or if you need a copy please let me know. Also, I am very pleased that Maddy Marzullo has agreed to take on the position of NEW Redbook editor. I am sure she will do an excellent job as usual!

"Lace up your shoes" winner
The winner of the "Shoe Shopping Trip", which ran consecutively with GFWC's Fall "Lace Up Your Shoes" Seasonal Recruitment Campaign, was Marilyn Pearson. Marilyn is the president of the Stratford Woman's Club. To say she was excited would be quite an understatement! Watch upcoming issues of the e-Newsletter for pictures of our day at the shoe store. I am sure it will be a day of fun and camaraderie.

Federated Woman's Club of Glastonbury
Presents Kala Prasad Srinivasan in Carnatic Music Concert, Wed., March 13th at 7 p.m. A classically trained vocalist, instrumentalist and teacher, she has chosen to perform "Classical Music of India".

Women's Club of Madison
Annual Babysitting Seminar on the Wednesday's in March; 6, 13, 20 & 27 @ the Polson Middle School from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. This how-to babysitting class is for boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Students must attend all classes to receive a certificate. www.madisonct.org

Women's Club of Greater New Milford
On Sat., February 23, there will be an hour-long class of shimmy, hip rolls, hot music and fun Belly Dance FIT to raise money and collect food for the New Milford Food Bank! www.WCGNM.org

GFWC Windsor Women's Club
Sharon Gauthier, RN/BSN/MSN, a club member and patient advocate, spoke and answered questions at the January meeting.
Also, Shirley Hennessy was installed as the newest member of the club.

Scarves for Sandy Hook
As of early this week 3,134 scarves had been collected from knitters and crocheters everywhere. Here are some of the recipients getting a warm "thank you":
- Sandy Hook Elementary
- CT's Reps and Senators, with hopes they go all the way to the First Family and the Biden family
- Newtown's First Selectwoman, first responders, Board of Ed, municipal offices, Superintendent, and Youth Prevention Council
- Monroe's first responders, Superintendent, Board of Ed, and First Selectman
- Southbury's state police barracks
- First responders from Oxford, Bethel, Brookfield, New Cannan, Ridgefield, Fairfield, Easton, Redding, and Fairfield who have helped out in Newtown
- Each of the Trumbull fire stations and police department will receive a framed scarf
- Priests and Rabbis from surrounding areas
- 911 dispatchers
- Newtown bus drivers

Sandy Hook Fund established
To All GFWC/CT Club Presidents and Members, At our President's Executive Board Meeting on January 19th, the Executive Board voted to approve that any clubs wishing to donate to the victims of Sandy Hook would be able to send their Club donations to GFWC/CT. The donations may be sent to the Attention of: State Treasurer- Georgeann Kishner made out to GFWC/CT and in the memo section note: Newtown Women's Club. These funds are to be earmarked and held for the Newtown Women's Club as a line item in our GFWC/CT State budget. The monies collected will be dispersed to the Newtown Woman's Club when they request those funds for the needs and support in their community. - Nancy Kalyan, President GFWC/CT

GFWC/CT Resolution on Assault Weapons
Also at the President's Executive Board Meeting on January 19, a Resolution Banning the Sale and Possession of Assault Weaponry was presented, discussed, voted on, and passed.
After asking for the membership's support, clubs were given a sample letter to fill out and send to their U.S. Senators/ U.S. Representatives with addresses provided.
President Nancy Kalyan asks all clubs to please complete send this letter by post or email to encourage our Congressmen in Washington to vote to remove the dangerous weaponry from the public's hands.
In addition, the Resolution was forwarded to the GFWC Resolutions Chairman, asking that under the Emergency Resolution provision, our resolution be considered for adoption at the next International Convention. Please take action and let your voices be heard. - Renee Wood, Resolutions Chairman

"Pennies for Art"
GFWC/CT Senior High School Arts Festival
Goodwin College - March 8 - 10, 2013
GFWC/CT is once again sponsoring their annual statewide Arts Festival for high school seniors. Judging will take place on March 9th. A reception for students, teachers, parents, and the public is scheduled
for Sunday, March 10th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Everyone is encouraged to attend.
We could use all of our Clubs support to help these student's win some financial awards for their artistic talent. Please send all donations to Georgeann Kirshner.
Monetary awards are given for "Best in Show" on the basis of artistic promise; First, Second, and Third place. This year the "Best in Show" award is $150. Remaining category award amounts are based on donations.
