Upcoming meeting calendar

The Women's Club of Plainville is
celebrating its 100th year in February!

The Woman's club of Plainville was organized in February, 1913.
The Club's purpose was to promote literary, social and civic interests in Plainville. The original 18 club women deposited in the bank $8.00 to start a "Literary Fund" for the newly formed club. In November 1913, the women voted to make their civic work a new Library. They campaigned to convince the community to donate to the library fund. Together they raised over $50,000. The beautiful granite structure was dedicated on August 8, 1931 and still stands today as a symbol of their dedication to the town of Plainville.

The club was incorporated in October 1921.
Join the anniversary celebration. If you would like to attend any of our monthly events, please contact Audrey Zack,

Caring for Connecticut
Newtown Angels 2012
Our thoughts, prayers, and hope remain with our Federation friends from the Newtown Woman's Club, GFWC, Inc., and GFWC Connecticut. During the week, we received countless inquiries on how to help. As club members work with their fellow neighbors to best figure out an appropriate tribute, GFWC is engaging an "Acts of Kindness" movement to honor the 26 innocent lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Suggested by NBC News correspondent Ann Curry, we encourage everyone to perform 26 Acts of Kindness within your own communities, to others across the nation, and even globally. - GFWC News & Notes, 12/22/12

WOMAN'S POLICY DAY
CAPITOL BUILDING, HARTFORD
November 27, 2012
Womans Policy Day 2012

GFWC/CT co-sponsored the event this year along with several other organizations including the CT Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.

The second annual policy day had a registration of over 100 which included high school students and a great representation by GFWC/CT.

The agenda included an informational segment on the Affordable Care Act and its impact on women's health services, a panel discussion by some of our  female legislators as well as a General Assembly 101 component that provided the basic how-tos of testifying at a hearing.  The day ended with mock hearings that attendees could participate in to learn the dos and don'ts of an important process in advocating for issues.

Takeaway points from the day included: know who your legislators are, meet them, don't hesitate to testify if the issue is important to you, and get involved!

Friendship. Pride. Service.
