Child Abuse Prevention Month

April 2012

Pinwheels for Prevention!

Help show Connecticut's support of families and dedication to the prevention of all forms of child maltreatment!

Prevent Child Abuse America has launched the annual Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign, and it is now time to order your pinwheels for 2012. As a symbol for the prevention of child abuse and neglect, the pinwheels are bright and shiny representations of the healthy futures we want for all children. Many communities create gardens of pinwheels to celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. Call us at 1-800-CHILDREN to let us know how we can help you plan your own Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign.

Order your supply today!

The pinwheels are sold in boxes of 24 each, and the minimum order of pinwheels is one box. Shipping is included in the price, but it would be great if you were able to pick them up.

One to 19 boxes: $11 per box

20 or more boxes: $10 per box

GFWC SUCCESS FOR SCHOLARSHIP FUND

We have the funds! Congratulations and many thanks to you the clubwomen, states and districts for your many contributions to the GFWC Success for Survivors Scholarship Fund. You have done it!

Now, TIME IS RUNNING OUT! The applications are due by 11:59 P.M. on March 30, 2012. Please take advantage of this amazing scholarship by contacting your local battered women's shelters and encouraging them to discuss this with the survivors in their areas. What an incredible opportunity for these victims to spread their wings and begin anew!

GFWC has received only ONE application to date. Eight $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to domestic violence survivors at the Signature Project Gala in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, June 15, 2012. To clarify the number EIGHT scholarships - this DOES NOT mean that there will be ONE from each of GFWC's eight Regions. Ironically, it was just a number that was selected.  Please don't get confused.

GFWC/CT MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

As District Days are just around the corner, it is time to honor your clubwomen for their service to GFWC. Thank you for helping me ensure that your members are properly recognized this year. Please let me know of any members who should be recognized for 25 or 50 years of service to GFWC. Remember, membership to any GFWC club counts not just the current club. Please send me your clubwoman's name and year she started in GFWC. Thank you in advance for making Membership Recognition a priority in your club. I encourage clubs to consider the 5 P's and how it will affect the future success of their clubs and please, let me know how I can help!
