This is Sam Houston's response to an invitation to attend a 4th of July Celebration in 1848, while serving in the US Senate.  This document is part of the Phil Collins Texana Collection at The Alamo.  Below is the transcription of the document.

20th June 1848

 

 

Gentlemen,

                I thank you for the very kind + flattering invitation with which you have here pleased to compliment me to be present at a national celebration on the 4th of July proximo.

                I am most happy to accept the invitation and will attend on the occasion.

                I am Gentlemen, with great respect you friend + fellow citizen.
