Don't Forget the Cookies

As the fall semester gets underway, there is always the challenge of trying to get to know the students and to have the students get to know you.  Thanks to the folks at University of Texas at Austin, we now have a great way to do that, have a Connections Class.

In a Connections Class,  faculty spend 20 minutes talking about themselves, including their research, their interests, why they decided to become an engineer, and/or pretty much anything else they feel is appropriate to share with students. Students can make comments or ask questions (which faculty chose not to answer) and everyone gets a chance to get to know a little bit about each other.

At UT Austin, Connections Classes start with cookies for everyone, provided by the Women in Engineering Program.  The cookies are fun, but not necessary to do the class.  You can buy cookies or if you want to make your own cookies, I, Pat, will be glad to share a copy of the recipe for my world famous, chocolate chip cookies.

If you would like more information about Connections Classes, check out the ENGAGE toolkit.
