An Evening for Hope

NCC Supports NIH's "An Evening for Hope"

NCC was honored to attend and serve as a Welcome Reception sponsor for the NIH's 2nd Annual "An Evening for Hope" on May 2nd in Tysons Corner, VA.  The event raised over $700,000 for the Children's Inn at NIH, "a place like home" where seriously ill children and their families can stay during the course of the children's treatment at NIH.

This special night included speeches by families who have stayed at the Inn, a performance by political satirists The Capitol Steps, delicious food and fine, and silent and live auctions.

 NCC Spring 2015 Newsletter

NCC is proud to usher in the spring by announcing new contracts and partnerships, a variety of recent projects, and continuous support for several local community organizations.  Read about some of the ways in which we make communication and collaboration happen below.  We wish our customers and partners a wonderful spring and summer season!

 Message From the CEO

As I was building the business plan for a new company that would eventually become NCC nearly 15 years ago, I did a lot of research on and talked with many people about the first services I envisioned us providing: captioning, transcription, and court reporting.  One seasoned military court reporter I talked to, who became an early mentor of mine, pointed out that there is a world of difference between the statements, "No, shots were fired," and, "No shots were fired."  That one seemingly insignificant comma - the omission or inclusion of which can be a single instance of miscommunication - diametrically changes the meaning of a very important sentence.

That example of the importance of clear communication stuck with me and guided NCC's drive for quality communications to this day.  So whether our team is providing captioning services to the National Institutes of Health or supporting our latest contract with the Social Security Administration by providing the full complement of video teleconferencing products and services to keep the largest civilian government VTC infrastructure in the world running smoothly, NCC has been focused on one thing - "Making Communication and Collaboration Happen."  We started facilitating communication and collaboration in physical spaces - the command and control center, the conference room, the broadcast studio.  Now, we're doing it in virtual spaces - the internet and private cloud networks - and we're taking it mobile to all of your devices.  We help our customers communicate and collaborate no matter where they are and what technology they're using.

Recently, one of our customers came to us with a tough problem: providing a solution that integrates Microsoft Lync with a Cisco VTC infrastructure and an Avaya voice system, all while ensuring a common user experience across all devices and technologies.  NCC partnered with Acano to provide an enterprise-wide solution for this customer.  Our joint solution creates secure virtual workspaces and meeting rooms, centered on a task or project, which allows people to collaborate using any platform so that technology becomes an enabler -- not a barrier.

At NCC we're constantly looking for ways to help our customers achieve their missions.  Our people are dedicated to facilitating clear communication in all its forms, and we're continuously perfecting the old solutions and searching out new ways to make that happen.

                       - Chris Marquez, President and CEO

Video Teleconferencing Support for SSA

The Social Security Administration (SSA) was in need of video teleconferencing (VTC) support in each of its more than 2,000 offices.  In 2014, NCC was awarded a contract to provide this support, which includes VTC call center management, remote and on-site technical support, and ongoing and preventative maintenance for SSA's 11 multimedia centers, among numerous other responsibilities.  This continues our longstanding association with SSA, as we've provided the agency with verbatim transcription support since 2011.

Since 1916, the National Park Service (NPS) has preserved over 84 million acres in more than 400 beautiful places throughout the United States.  In April, NCC was awarded a contract that gives us the unique opportunity to help preserve important multimedia materials for the NPS.  We will provide language and text solutions in the form of verbatim transcription, media digitization, translation, and captioning support primarily for a variety of oral history interviews from the Service's vaults.

Beginning in late 2014, NCC has provided comprehensive live meeting support for numerous Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) meetings. Our technical associates perform a wide range of AV services, including the setup of sound systems, in-room displays, and audio and video recordings.  Most of these meetings have been open to the public and our services have ensured panel speakers and audience members are able to participate and interact with one another.

Since early 2014, NCC has provided on-site support for several of HRSA's advisory council meetings.  Our team first offered verbatim transcription and summary services for meetings, and has since expanded to provide audiovisual support and real-time captioning via webinar.

Our on-site associates set up microphones and recorders prior to the meeting, and then take thorough notes in order in order to generate the summaries and transcripts, which are used to develop comprehensive reports that go to HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell and Congress. To date, we have supported nearly 20 meetings in just over a year.
