Technology Integration - Blended Learning
| |

What is blended learning? In Blended Learning: The Convergence of Online and Face-to-Face Education,1 it is described as the combination of online delivery of educational content (including technology resources and Web 2.0 tools) with the best features of classroom interaction and live instruction. The goal of blended learning is to provide personalized learning and differentiated instruction to support college and career readiness for all students.
Blended learning classrooms are described as flexible learning environments in which students learn in a variety of ways. The teachers who are successfully implementing blended learning strategies tell us that blended learning represents more than an increase of technology resources in the classroom - it truly represents a shift in instructional strategy. In a successful blended learning model where students are engaged and active participants in their learning, blended learning can be transformational.
Blended learning, combining
The blended learning instructional model has the following characteristics:
- It shifts away from lecture to student-centered instruction in which students become active and interactive learners
- Technology use in the classroom shifts from the use of technology to present instruction to technology use by students
- There is enhanced interaction/collaboration between student and instructor, student and student, and student and learning resources
- Processes for formative and summative assessments are integrated in the learning model

As the End of the School Year Approaches
| |
The end of the year is quickly approaching. As you begin to clean the classroom, office, etc. don't forget to clean up your computer.
- Browse through your files and delete any outdated ones.
- Check your Download folder. Many times we download files but don't realize that the files are saved to a download folder. As time goes by, the download area can gobble up a lot of your hard drive space. Drag files you wish to save to your documents folder then purge the rest.
- Organize your files so they can be easily found.
- As a precaution, backup files that are important to you.
- If it's a small amount of files (16 GB or less), use a flash drive.
- For larger files or a large amount of files, invest in a portable hard drive. Well worth the money and you can continue to work off the device from any computer.
Taking a little time cleaning up your files and backing up to a secondary source now could save you a lot of heartache later.

Find that Class in OLM | |
There are so many SMART Board techniques to engage students and help with presentation that it was hard to choose just one, however, I have found the Dual Page Display to be extremely helpful in delivery and organization of curricular content.
Dual Page Display
Select the dual page display in the toolbar to activate Dual Page Display. Scroll through the Notebook presentation one page at a time by selecting the forward or backward arrow. Objects can be dragged from one page to another. But what is really cool is that
you can Pin Page one page so it will remain visible while you scroll through pages using the forward or backward arrow.
The Pin Page icon can be added to your Notebook toolbar by right clicking on the toolbar. This will open up the Customize Toolbar where you can drag the Pin Page into your Notebook toolbar.
