SmartBoards

SMART Exchange

If you have a Smart Board in your classroom you should pay a visit to http://exchange.smarttech.com.

The SMART Exchange is a site designed to provide educators with access to numerous learning resources. Once you create a free account, you can perform a custom search to locate valuable standards-based Notebook lessons, preview them, and download to your computer to use at a later time. Simply choose the "Standards Correlated Lessons" link on the top menu and choose your state, grade level, and content area.

Once your search is complete you will see the state content standards with blue hyperlinks to Smart Lessons as well as Smart Response Assessments. These documents have been submitted by teachers, educational publishers, and SMART Technologies and are available in 20 different languages. Once you download the lessons, you can make changes to fit the learning needs of your students. Don't go to the trouble to create lessons from scratch! Visit the SMART Exchange and save yourself some time by customizing the work already done by other Smart Board users.

iPad Apps

iPads

There are many productivity apps for the iPad/iPod/iPhone found in the Apple App Store.

So which one will work best for you?  If you are willing to pay a few dollars, Apple has redesigned for the mobile world Pages, Keynote and Numbers.  This powerful suite of applications also open and save their Microsoft Office counterpart. These three apps are the district standard for iPad productivity.

If you strictly want to stay with office, try QuickOffice.  Many enjoy this app because of its ability to grab documents from  Dropbox.  If free is what you are after, try Plain Text.  No frills here but it's a good word processor that works with Dropbox.

Student Searching Tricks

Last Name, First Name - When searching for a student by last name and first name make sure you add a comma between names.

Wildcards % - Use the following wildcard character (%) to search for specific patterns in students names. Example: "mi%l" will return; Michael, Miguel, Mikayla, Mitchell, Michelle, etc.

Underscore "_" - The underscore will look for incomplete demographic forms. Sometimes a student add is started and the user closes the window and an incomplete record is added to the system with underscores as the first and last name fields. You can search for these students by using the underscore in the search field.
