Candidate Training Workshop

The business community needs advocates in all levels of government. To help give candidates and campaign workers the tools they need to run a successful campaign, a Candidate Training Workshop will be held on Saturday, January 11th, from 8:00am to 12:30pm at the Happy Valley City Hall.

This workshop will help guide you through campaign basics from filing, raising money, and marketing yourself to winning an election and holding office. The theme will be "How to use Statesmanship and Compromise" with keynote speaker and former Oregon Governor, Victor Atiyeh, presenting on "Campaigning to Lead".

Thank you for being part of Christmas Giving!
To our Members, Sponsors and Donors, we thank you for all the support you provided during our annual Christmas Giving Breakfast that took place on December 13th.

Because of your generosity, we were able to raise $4,900 for the Clackamas County Peace Officer's Benevolent Foundation's "Shop with a Cop" program.   This means that 49 kids were able to shop for Christmas presents for themselves and their family members.

A giant thank you goes out to Willamette View, Craig Van Valkenburg and his amazing team. Willamette View goes out of their way each year to accommodate us and this year was no exception! Decorated beautifully, the dinning room was set up to accommodate over 200 guests. The food was divine as usual!

Another thank you is to our Sponsors, who supported this successful event:

The raffle prizes just kept pouring in - 98 to be exact!  The first gifts raffled were the high value prizes - so a special thank you goes out to the following:

Brad Carpenter and Kylie Schafer for their donation of the helicopter ride/wine tour.
Levi Manselle for the custom made guitar - that he made himself!
Clackamas County Sherriff's Office for 2 ride-alongs.
Clackamas Review gifted advertising and a year's subscription in a lovely wine basket.
East Side Athletic Club donated a 3 month family pass.
Gresham Ford gifted 2 full detail car spa days.
Jared the Gallaria of Jewelry donated a lovely Pandora bracelet w/ charms.
McFarlanes Bark donated a unit of compost.

Here's a complete list of all our generous raffle donors. Without any of you, we simply couldn't have raised so much money for such a worthy cause.

Clackamas County honors Rose Villa with recycling award. Portland Rose Festival Foundation

Innovative senior living community demonstrates exceptional recycling and sustainability practices.

Rose Villa Senior Living, located in Oak Grove, was honored Dec. 13 with a Business Recycling Awards Group (BRAG) award from the Clackamas County Recycling Partnership.

"We are pleased to recognize Rose Villa for its efforts in creating an environmentally-conscious and sustainable community by fostering collaboration between staff and residents," said Julane Potter, sustainability specialist with Clackamas County.

Rose Villa residents formed a Green Committee in 2007 to improve operations, conserve resources and reduce environmental impact. The committee worked closely with staff to improve plumbing and energy use, and increase recycling, all of which have resulted in significant cost savings. Staff and residents continually look for best practices that contribute to the overall quality of life in their community.

"Rose Villa's sustainability initiatives directly reflect the desire of the many retired professionals who live here to do right by the environment," said Jim Carr, Rose Villa sustainability manager. "They are dedicated to improving the sustainability of our planet for their generation, and through future generations to come."

The G.R.E.A.T. Foundation, Inc. proudly announces that Logotek, Inc. is an authorized vendor of G.R.E.A.T. branded products.Logotek, Inc.

Logotek, Inc. joins five other G.R.E.A.T. licensed vendors to provide promotional products and apparel with the G.R.E.A.T. logo. "The addition of Logotek, Inc. to the G.R.E.A.T. family fills a void for police agencies who offer the G.R.E.A.T. program in their communities. They previously had to pay shipping from much longer distances. Having a vendor in the region reduces overall costs for these agencies which is especially critical in these economic times," according to Roger Barnes, Chair of the G.R.E.A.T. Foundation, Inc.

TriMet

Update from TriMet

TriMet's and the Amalgamated Transit Union's new negotiated Interim Hours of Service (IHOS) policy for bus operators was fully implemented in June, and the second quarter results show increased compliance with more than a 99 percent success rate. The IHOS policy eliminated "double-backs" where a small number of operators took just a few hours off between service days. The IHOS policy requires either 9 or 10 hours off between service days, depending on an operator's assignments.
