From Board Chair

David Russell, Adventist Health / Adventist Medical Center

David Russell Seeking your opinions and suggestions

Spring has come with gusto. Warm, sunny days, daffodils and tulips and lots of green surround us on every side.

The Chamber is now in the final quarter of our fiscal year. Chamber Board and leadership continue to focus on growth and creating value and supporting our membership. Financially the Chamber is well ahead of our year-to-date budget projections.

An important event is our upcoming annual Board strategic planning session scheduled for April 23. The planning session provides opportunity for the board and leadership to spend focused time reviewing what is going well, what can we improve and what opportunities exist for the Chamber to better meet the needs of our membership and support positive business growth in the communities we serve. Please take a few minutes to share your opinions and suggestions with a board member or Chamber staff member so we can include your input in the planning process.

Thank you for your active engagement in helping your North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce continue promoting and helping expand business in the communities we serve.

CCC provides working solution for Canby manufacturer

Business was going well for Canby manufacturer JV Northwest (JVNW). So well, in fact, the company couldn't find enough trained welding fabricators to meet the demand. Customized Training and Development Services at Clackamas Community College (CCC) proposed a solution: provide the training to qualified recruits on site.

CCC and JVNW recruited an initial cohort of 10 to participate in the entry-level welding technician program. CCC welding instructors provided formal training to the recruits at the JVNW site in Canby and certified the in-house trainer as an instructor. Students in the program spent 20 hours a week receiving formal training and 20 hours a week in on-the-job projects. The photo to the right is of CCC President Joanne Truesdell, JVNW co-owner Kyle Sawyer, and CCC Dean Scott Giltz at graduation.
