$20k in tourism grant funds now available - deadline April 1
Your Chamber is now accepting Community Partnership Program (CPP) grant applications for locally-generated tourism projects in the North Clackamas County Area. Eligible projects are those that can reasonably be expected to increase tourism activity in the community. Ideal projects are those that are significant, self-sustaining, and have the ability to recognize and/or demonstrate a return on investment. Strong, local partnerships are highly encouraged. Funding may be awarded to public, private and nonprofit organizations whose proposals demonstrate a benefit to the greater public interests of tourism development, promotion, and/or marketing. This program is not intended for individual business development or community development projects.
These grants are made available through Clackamas County Tourism, in partnership with Your Chamber. The funding for this program comes from county transient lodging tax revenues.
The application deadline is April 1st.

President's Message
David A. Kelly, President & CEO
Not so unnoticed
When I visit with Chamber members, I ask them, "Why are you a member of the Chamber?" I often hear they enjoy attending a couple events a month, they like meeting other business people, and they know the Chamber is working behind the scenes to create a stronger business environment and community. Well, as of last Friday, not all of that work was not as behind the scenes as it had been. State Representative Bill Kennemer sent out his district update and in the last paragraph, mentioned Your Chamber three times and used a photo taken with our delegation to Chamber Day. Apparently, Rep. Kennemer isn't the only one who has been busy.
The district update mentions the Elected Official's Reception - held January 22, Leadership Clackamas County's trip to Salem - on February 13, and our leadership's participation in Chamber Day - on March 1. Thanks to the many members and politicians who made all those events successful. Remember, whether we are unnoticed or visible, Your Chamber is here working for you!

'Planetwalker' John Francis to speak at CCC in April
In 1971, John Francis witnessed an oil spill in the San Francisco Bay. The following year, Francis made good on a pledge to never ride in a car again, and for 22 years he walked across North and South America. A year after he stopped riding in motorized vehicles, on his birthday in 1973, Francis decided to stop speaking for a day and instead listen to what others had to say. He found the experience so valuable that he kept his silence for the next 17 years, ending his silence on Earth Day in 1990. Francis, an environmentalist nicknamed the "planetwalker," will speak at Clackamas Community College (CCC) on Wednesday, April 17 and will lead a workshop the following evening, Thursday, April 18. The events are sponsored by the CCC Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center and the Earth and Spirit Council. Full article

State Trade & Export Promotion grants still available!

This STEP (State Trade & Export Promotion) grant will primarily be used to provide matching grants for up to $5,000 directly to small businesses.
STEP grants are most commonly awarded to reimburse small businesses for costs associated with attending trade shows (domestic or international) where they will can make contact with foreign buyers. Businesses interested in using the grant must apply to Business Oregon and be approved before they travel to the trade show. This is a unique and immediate opportunity for market development assistance. Grant funds are available now over-the-counter until funds are exhausted. The best time to apply is now. Take a brief survey on Clackamas County workweek
In 2009, some Clackamas County offices transitioned from a five, eight-hour-day workweek schedule (Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm) to a four, 10-hour-day workweek schedule (Monday - Thursday, 7:00am - 6:00pm) in order to save operational costs.
They are interested in learning what impact this schedule has had, if any, on their business customers, and would appreciate feedback from you about the impact of this change, if any, on your interaction with the County. Responses to this brief survey will be kept confidential and will be used to help decide whether to continue with the new schedule. The survey is available online.

ODOT inspection "No concerns for public safety"
An inspection of the TriMet MAX light rail system reinforces the agency's assurance to riders that the system is safe, refuting accusations to the contrary made by Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) leadership. The inspection was conducted by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), the designated rail safety oversight agency for TriMet rail operations, as required by the Federal Transit Administration. "After 50 plus hours of inspections and reviewing of records, ODOT was unable to find any areas of a safety concern," said ODOT Manager of Rail Safety Section John Johnson. More
