President's Message

David A. Kelly, President & CEO

Your Chamber Needs Your Involvement

Your Chamber is a busy pace these days. We just completed a successful Elected Officials Reception and are putting the final touches on planning for the State of the Cities Forum Luncheon on January 30. We are also looking ahead with preparation for Commerce in the Rough and the 2013-2014 Chamber business plan is underway.

Your Chamber wants you to be involved in our planning process. Our Education Team, Forum Lunch Team, and Leadership Steering Committee are all in need of more volunteers. We also want to hear your ideas about the programs the Chamber currently offers and what new things we could offer in the future. Remember, this truly is Your Chamber! We exist to bring the business community together to accomplish that which you could not accomplish alone. What "those things are that we do together" is up to you.

Get involved! When the business community comes together as a TEAM, we find how much we can accomplish and that Together Everyone Achieves More!

Update: What is the 2012/13 North Clackamas Leadership Class up to...

In our last class we meet up at the Sabin-Schellenberg Center in Milwaukie.  The SSC is a technical skills center for the North Clackamas School District that encompasses a wide array of topics from automotive to information technology to manufacturing/engineering for students.

The location of our class was very suiting for some of the day's discussions. We had the opportunity to hear from the Principal of El Puente, a bilingual school in North Clackamas.  She spoke on how schools are shaping the workforce of tomorrow. We are growing, teaching, and prepping the leaders of tomorrow through education.

We also had the opportunity to hear from a professor from Marylhurst University who spoke on Leading your Team as a Life Long Learner. As a class we were asked to think of the following... How do you describe yourself and experiences as a learner?  As a learner, how have you changed?  How do you envision yourself as a learner as you grow older?  What excites you about learning? How do you know learning is happening? John F. Kennedy said, "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other."

Our class has decided on our class project and has received the Board's approval.  We are very excited and will share more information as we firm up the details.
