President's Message
David A. Kelly, President & CEO
The Voice of Business
Do you ever think, "The politicians just don't get it! They don't understand what it takes to run my business!"? Well those types of thoughts are one of the reasons the North Clackamas Chamber (and chambers of commerce, in general) exists. We are here to help bridge the gap between you and your state and local government.
One of the ways Your Chamber does this is by providing you with opportunities to hear from and interact with key governmental leaders. In the next two weeks, we are hosting two major events where the business community will have an opportunity to make its voice heard -- the Elected Officials Reception on January 22 and the State of the Cities Forum Luncheon on January 30 (see articles on both events). Our government leaders have been eager to register for both events. They want to meet you, to find out what is on your mind, and to develop ways to unleash the power of the private sector to bring jobs and prosperity to our cities, county, region, and state.
Now, we need you. I recently told a group of your fellow members that the business community is the most important constituency for any level of government, but often you are too busy running your businesses to remind the politicians of that fact. Please take time out of your busy schedule to attend one or both of these events. Allow Your Chamber to connect you, and the entire business community, with our government leaders. When the business community comes together as a TEAM, we find that we have a very strong voice and that Together Everyone Achieves More!

Thursday is the final day to register to meet elected officials!
Join Your Chamber at the Elected Officials Reception on Tuesday, January 22 to meet and greet your elected officials. Over 30 elected officials, including state representatives and senators, county commissioners, mayors, city council members, and special district representatives have already committed to this prestigious event. Be there to remind them that the business community is their most important constituency.
The event will be held at Camp Withycombe - Oregon Military Department, 15300 SE Industrial Way, Clackamas 97015. Have your ID ready to enter through the security gate. Hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be provided. The Elected Officials Reception is being sponsored by Oregon Iron Works, Camp Withycombe, and this year's Vision Sponsors.

Recognition of members
Your Chamber would like to recognize these members who reinvested in Your Chamber last week:

If you recruit a new Chamber member between now and March 20, you will earn $20 in Chamber bucks and become eligible to win $500. Every member who recruits a new Chamber member during this membership recruiting contest will be allotted one raffle ticket per recruit. At the end of the contest, a drawing will be held for the $500 grand prize.
There is no way to know what the actual odds of winning will be, but they are a whole lot better than Powerball. If the anticipated 50 to 100 new members are recruited during the Board Challenge, and you recruit at least one member, your odds of winning should be no worse than 1 in 100. Recruit two new members and your odds improve to 1 in 50! Membership forms are available on the chamber website. Print some out and start talking to your business associates about the benefits you have derived from your chamber membership. Your recruits will be winners, too!
