 Coming Together in the Wake of the
Clackamas Town Center Shooting
The shooting on 12/11 was a tragic event. Two innocent people were killed and one was seriously wounded. Store employees and patrons were terrorized, and a whole community had its sense of security shattered. I know we all share in this grief and empathize with those most caught up in this senseless act of violence.
I would like to express my gratitude and admiration to all those whose actions helped prevent an even greater tragedy. To the Clackamas Town Center management for having emergency procedures in place and practiced. To the store employees who acted immediately to protect customers and themselves. And to the emergency personnel who responded so quickly.
I am also proud of how this community has come together. Kindness, sympathy, and emotional support have been offered to family, friends, and strangers alike.

Please join Your Chamber at an Elected Officials Reception on Tuesday, January 22 to meet and greet your elected officials. Our event is being co-hosted by the Oregon City Chamber and the Wilsonville Chamber and is being sponsored by Oregon Iron Works, Camp Withycombe, and this year's Vision Sponsors. The topic for the Tuesday, January 15, Grow Your Business workshop is "Employee Feedback: Make it Easy, Keep it Simple!" Try the 2 minute challenge in this interactive workshop which focuses on managing employees with real time feedback. Coaching employees for improved performance is a learned skill which is vital for business success and employee development. This workshop is FREE for Chamber Members, but please register. Sponsored by Portland General Electric (PGE) and the Clackamas Community College - Customized Training Center, it will be held in the Oregon Institute of Technology B uilding, Room 149, from 11:45am - 1:15pm. Bring your lunch - beverages will be available.

Leadership 2012/13 is off and leading!
The North Clackamas Leadership Clackamas County Class is a 9-month training that offers emerging leaders of companies and organizations in the North Clackamas area a chance to come together to learn and practice leadership skills. The class, which meets on the second Wednesday of the month from October - May, consists of a variety of speakers as well as hand-on skill building opportunities. The group is also charged with planning and executing a community project.

AM Business Connection host needed
We are looking for a host for the AM Business Connection (ABC) on Friday January 18th for our quarterly Business Connection Exchange (this event will be held in a larger location due to table requirements, but we still need a host to support the event). Please keep in mind, the ABC's are held from 7:30am to 9:00am. If you are interested in hosting this event, or any others in the New Year, please contact Laura Edmonds by email.

Attorney General Rosenblum directs accelerated assistance to witnesses of mall shooting
Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum announced that the Oregon Department of Justice is offering emergency financial compensation to help pay for counseling for people who were at Clackamas Town Center at the time of the December 11 shooting rampage.

Clackamas County offers help for people in need of mental health services

The tragic events at Clackamas Town Center have deeply affected our community. While people react in many different ways to this type of event, it is important to remember that traumatic stress is a normal response to an abnormal situation. It is our body's effort to make meaning out of a senseless act.

 TriMet riders get double discount on ZooLights admission
Take the MAX to ZooLights to escape the stress of driving, avoid parking hassles and - save money! Not only does taking MAX save gas money, it saves on the admission price. The Oregon Zoo has been taking $1.50 off admission to ZooLights with proof of TriMet ridership. From December 14 to December 31, that discount doubles to $3.

Less than two weeks left to exchange old-style tickets
Time is running out to exchange older style TriMet tickets for new ones. After Monday, December 31, riders will not be able to exchange tickets that do not have the foil security strip. Also, they will not be able to upgrade or exchange 1-Zone and 2-Zone tickets.
