Your support is needed for long time tradition
When the Christmas Ships make their first appearance in Milwaukie today, it will be a once in a lifetime experience, not to be missed. No one among us will ever see the Christmas Ships again on 12-12-12. Okay, so maybe all you need to know is that the Christmas Ships will begin their 2012 Season on the Willamette River on Wednesday, December 12th (still, that's pretty cool about 12-12-12, right?). The Christmas Ship organization is composed of a multitude of private boat owners who donate their time, their boats and their love of their communities to their fellow citizens. Run under the aegis of Christmas Ships, Inc., the Christmas Ships have been gracing our community with their Christmas spirit for 58 years running. Although the individual ships run at their own cost, Christmas Ships, Inc relies on donations from individuals and businesses to organize and support this activity. It is through those donations that the Christmas Ships are able to come back to Milwaukie and its surrounding communities year after year. Please consider making a donation. Full article

Winter Solstice Bonfire & Christmas Ships The Milwaukie Winter Solstice event has been a cherished tradition for years. On December 15 come down to the Milwaukie Riverfront park and watch the Christmas Ship fleet cruise the Willamette River! Warm by bonfire, enjoy yummy treats (for sale) and listen to carols performed by the Dickens Carolers. The ships will pass by Milwaukie around 5:30pm, subject to weather and river conditions. The ships will go as far as George Rogers Park and then turn back to Portland. This annual event draws hundreds of people and is a fun time for the whole family. This event is free and all ages are encouraged to participate! Due to parking restraints, please park on the east side of McLoughlin and walk to the event. For more information about either event please call Beth Ragel at 503.786.7568. Click for details.

Have fun cheering on your team but don't forget your fare
Leave the driving to TriMet when heading to the Rose Quarter to cheer on the Portland Trail Blazers or the Winterhawks this month, but don't forget to purchase a fare. The Rose Garden and Veterans Memorial Coliseum will be seeing quite a bit of action in the coming weeks. All MAX lines, as well as six bus lines, serve the Rose Quarter and provide a convenient way to get to and from the games.
