2012 Ladies’ Night A Huge Success!
Thanks to everyone who braved a dreary, foggy December night to attend our annual Ladies Night. Attendees generously donated supplies for a Hayward-area domestic violence shelter with a value totaling nearly $500! Congrats to all our door prize winners – over $1500 of great merchandise was given away to 25 lucky women, including Fischer Women’s Carbonlite Skate Boots and an amazing full-length down coat from Skhoop. Thanks again to all who helped make this a success.
Trail Report Season
Now that we’re officially into our winter season, it’s time to get out on the trails. Skiers are always welcome to call the shop and talk to a real skier for the latest trail conditions around Birkie Country at 800-754-8685. The internet is the skier’s friend also – check out Norwiski and Birkie.com for reports from our area, and Skinnyski for a comprehensive listing for the upper Midwest. At press time, it's snowing again, with a few inches expected today! Conditions around the area should continue to improve with additional snowfall. We are keeping our fingers crossed for a big snowstorm for the holidays. It won’t take much to make our conditions great. |

Christmas Week Ski and Snowshoe Rentals
We will offer recreational ski rentals once snow conditions improve. About 5-6” of additional snow is currently needed for this. We also offer snowshoe rentals regardless of snow conditions. This is a great alternative to renting skis if skis are not available. Rentals are available on a first come, first served basis. Adult rental ski packages are $30 for the first 24 hours, $20 for each additional day. Kids rental ski packages are $15 first day, $5 each additional day. Snowshoes are $20/$10 for adults, and $10/$5 for kids. |
Fischer Carbonlite Demo Center
New Moon is proud be a Fischer Carbonlite Demo Center again for the 2012/2013 season. The demo program allows skiers to try various sizes and flexes of Fischer’s remarkable Carbonlite skis and boots. Snow conditions allowing, we will offer the demos daily through Birkie. The demo fleet is based at the shop here in Hayward. Please call or email with any questions about the program. Now you've got it - this year, New Moon Ski Shop and Riverbrook Bike and Ski are teaming up for the Double O Double Demo on Saturday, Dec. 29 from 10am-3pm at the OO Warming Hut on the Birkie Trail. Say goodbye to 2012 with a great ski and try out the latest equipment from Fischer, Salomon, Rossignol, Madshus and more! Techs will be on hand to answer all your questions and help you find skis and boots that are the perfect fit. It's FREE, it's fun, and it's a fantastic way to spend the day! Seeley Hills Classic and Race Wax Clinic
Friday and Saturday, January 11-12, 2013
Join Olympian John Bauer for a pre-Seeley Hills Classic wax clinic on the eve of this popular race on Friday the 11th at 5:30PM right here at New Moon. John will share his wealth of waxing experience to help you have the best possible skis for the Seeley Hills Classic. Emphasis will be on kick waxing for the race. Get your last minute race supplies at New Moon – energy food, wax, pole parts, that piece of clothing you forgot – whatever. We've got it all! We'll be open late Friday night before the race for you.
The Seeley Hills Classic is the unofficial Midwest classic championship for citizen racers. The 2013 edition features the traditional 42K marathon and 22K options, both starting at 10AM on Saturday the 12th at Hwy OO on the Birkie Trail, and a 5K high school race at 10:15AM. Register soon – the first 400 entrants receive commemorative Swix/Seeley Hill Classic Hats! New Moon is proud to be a long-time sponsor of this great event.
IPC Nordic World Cup Returns to Telemark Resort!

We were humbled last year by the remarkable athletes competing at the Paralympic World Cup competition at Telemark Resort . Due to scheduling and venue conflicts in Europe, the IPC elected to return to Telemark for 2013! This decision was praised by the coaches and athletes who loved competing in northern Wisconsin last year. This is a rare opportunity to witness one of the most unique Nordic competitions and certainly some of the world's most amazing athletes. Various events will be held, including biathlon, classic, and freestyle races. This World Cup event is bookended by two popular citizen Birkie Trail events – The Seeley Hills Classic (see above) and the Birkie Tour (see following). A kinder, gentler Birkie! No wave starts, no timing, self starts – what more could you ask for? This has grown into a really fun and popular event, and we recommend it for any skier looking for a fun challenge. Put on by the Birkie Foundation, the Tour is organized with the same world-class precision that the Birkie is famous for. We'll be open late on Friday, 1/18 so you can stock-up on any supplies you might need. We'll even have a few supplies at Telemark Resort registration for your convenience on Friday and Saturday.
