New Moon ENewsletter - October 2012

Greetings from Birkie Country!

We hope you are as excited about the upcoming ski season as we are. In fact, it looks like many others are – registration for the American Birkebeiner is now closed! The Birkie has filled in record time again. Lets all hope for a wonderful, snowy ski season.

New Moon Annual Customer Appreciation Sale
*NEW WEEKEND*

November 1-4, 2012

Join us in celebrating New Moon's 36th anniversary at our Annual Customer Appreciation Sale Thursday, November 1st  through Sunday, November 4th. Take advantage of store-wide discounts on all in-stock items and expert service and knowledge. We'll even have a pot of hot cider out for you. We'd love to see you in-person, but if you can't make it to Hayward, enjoy our sale on the web at newmoonski.com.

Beat the rush! Early birds welcome! This traditionally has been a busy weekend for us, so feel free to come in early, and mention the sale. We're glad to honor it for you.

Important note: We coordinate our sale with our local ski club's popular annual ski swap. Due to scheduling conflicts both the ski swap and our sale are one week earlier than normal. Please plan accordingly.

HASTA Ski Swap
November 3, 2012

The Hayward Area Ski Trail Association is holding its annual ski swap Saturday, November 3rd, 2012. Buy and sell Nordic ski gear, as well as other gear including bikes and other silent sports equipment. Always a popular event in the Hayward-Cable area, the ski swap is an important fund raiser for HASTA, funding grooming and maintenance of the Hatchery Park and Hospital Ski Trails in Hayward. The swap will take place at the Hayward Wesleyan Church, 10655 Hwy 77, just about a mile from New Moon. Equipment drop-off is 7:30am-9am, shopping 9am-11am, and unsold pick-up is 11am-11:30am. Please call HASTA at 715-634-8079 to volunteer or for more information.

Fall Stone Grinding

After a brief summer rest, we're revving up our Wintersteiger stone grinder. Drop off or ship your skis to the shop and have them back in plenty of time for West Yellowstone or that first big dump of lake effect snow in the U.P. We highly recommend our post-grind Ski Sauna hotbox wax treatment with a stone grind. Hotboxing will saturate newly-opened microscopic pore spaces in your ski bases, and the treatment is discounted with a stone grind! We're happy to help advise you on the condition of your skis and on which grind to consider for your needs and goals. Grind discounts may be available for large batches and teams or clubs. Email chris@newmoonski.com with your stone grinding questions. Our grind menu and downloadable work form is available on our grind page.

Coming in December...

New Moon's Second Annual Winter Ladies Night! Last year's event was such a big success, we're doing it again. A few good reasons to attend include: great door prizes, special discounts, wax clinics, expert ski fitting, tons of great clothing to try on, friends, and, of course, yummy treats and beverages. Tentatively to be held December 1st, 5-7:30pm at New Moon Ski Shop in Hayward. Be there!

New Product Spotlight

Here are cool, new products that have rolled in to New Moon over the last few weeks...

Light & Motion Solite 100 and 250 Headlamps

Here at New Moon, we're suckers for gadgets that really work well and help us play more. With the dark months coming, we'll be night skiing with the all-new Solite headlamps from the good folks at Light & Motion. The Solite is so light...(sorry for the pun), compact, and perfectly designed, it qualifies as a "must have" for us. Sure, it's warmer skiing or snowshoeing during the day, but sometimes we just run out of daylight. The 100 has 100 lumens of power - great for skiing and snowshoeing, but the 250 and its 250 lumens add versatility for other activities like cycling. Each lamp has burn times of 2.5 hrs on high, 5 hrs medium, and 20 hrs on low. The ultra-compact Lithium battery recharges easily with the provided Mini USB cable and your laptop or PC. Includes a comfortable headstrap. Convertible to a handheld light and adaptable to bike use with a handlebar adapter, sold separately. Lamps like these would have sold for $300-$400 just a few years ago.
Solite 100, $99
Solite 250, $149
Solite Bar Mount, $15

Rossignol X-Ium World Cup NIS2 Skate Skis

The X-Ium NIS2 just keeps getting better. Rossi has managed to keep the aggressive and assertive "feel" that really has defined Rossi skate skis for years now, while lowering the camber for improved medium and soft-track performance. Not quite as subtle underfoot as some other popular racing skate skis, the X-Ium NIS2 is perfect for skiers that prefer a more pronounced edge on snow. The NIS2 remains Rossi's broad-spectrum performer, but still produces the NIS1 as a stiffer, hard-track specialty ski. An interesting refinement has been worked into Rossi's new design - the mid-body of the ski has been "ramped up" from heel to toe by several millimeters, mimicking the function binding wedges that have been recently gaining popularity. Ramping or wedging is a subtle but key development in skate ski/binding/boot design aiding in improved hill climbing. Skiers can also purchase both NNN and Pilot binding wedges separately to add to their set-up. We see in this season's X-Ium perhaps the most universal condition skate ski yet from Rossignol. Give them a serious look this fall!

Thanks for your time everyone! The flakes have already been flying here in Hayward, so Think SNOW!
