~ OMA is Pleased to Announce Michelle Heacox as the Executive Director ~

Education has been Michelle's passion since childhood. She began advocating for the expansion of alternative programs, including Montessori, in her town's public school system at the tender age of nine. This led to her testifying before the education committees of both the Washington State House of Representatives and the Senate multiple times. Michelle also met with several key legislators in both chambers, as well as then-Governor Gary Locke.

Michelle received double Bachelor's degrees in Chinese and Asian Studies with minors in Japanese and Political Science from Washington State University. She studied for a year in Beijing, China on a Fulbright Scholarship. Michelle also spent a summer in Beppu, Japan. Throughout her studies, Michelle never lost sight of her love for education. While in China, Michelle volunteered at a Montessori pre-school. Once she was back in the United States, she volunteered in a local second-grade classroom, helping students with reading, writing, and math.

In June of 2015, Michelle graduated with her Masters of Public Administration from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. Her degree focused on public policy with a focus on education.

In her free time, Michelle enjoys reading, hiking, knitting (and picking out yarns for future projects), and planning dream vacations.
