May 2013 News from OMA

Greetings!

The OMA sincerely thanks Far Horizons Montessori in Eugene for hosting the Spring Workshop on April 20th.  Sarah Lauer shared the principles of Caring Discipline with a wonderful gathering of Montessorians from many different schools.  Sarah's presentation provided clarity and insight into JoAnn Nordling's book, Taking Charge.  We hope to offer this workshop again in the future - it was both practical and deeply informative.

Our annual Spring Tea was a lovely gathering honoring our community, recent graduates of both AMS and AMI teacher training programs, and the recipients of the OMA Awards.  Thank you all for making this a meaningful tradition.  Our congratulations to Kim O'Hern and Ann Messick who were recognized for their gifted work by colleagues, parents and students.

In School Announcements:  A Beautiful Day Montessori shares news of its much-anticipated reopening this Fall of 2013!  The school is an in-home AMI Children's House nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Northeast Portland.  Their beautiful learning environment includes a comfortable interior offering plentiful natural light with a comprehensive set of Montessori materials, as well as a large, secure green space for gardening and free play.  In the familiar home environment, children enjoy a gentle introduction to the greater social and academic world.

The OMA NW Salary Survey report will be shared as soon as possible.  Thank you for participating.  We anticipate sending this out every year, around February, to increase its validity over time.

Thank you for making this community the strong, inclusive, and meaningful group that it is.  I am proud of the efforts and dedication of the OMA Board members and inspired by your beautiful schools.

Sincerely,
