Dear Lincoln Families,

Our final musical event of the year is next Wednesday, May 18th, at 6:30 in the BIS Auditorium. Our 4th & 5th graders have been working hard under the guidance of their expert teachers to prepare for this event. The Spring Concert is always an uplifting evening of instrumental and choral music, a night to celebrate our students' skill as well as the rich music education our district provides. It is also a bittersweet night as our 5th graders take the stage for the last time as Lions. I hope you will be able to join us

Thank you to all of the planners for Lion Dance. They were all systems go for last Friday and had to adjust at the last minute once we realized rain was in the forecast. I hope everyone has the new date, June 10th, circled on your calendar. Although it is unfortunate we had to postpone, having this quintessentially Lincoln event rescheduled for the Friday before the end of the school year will be a great way to wish each other well as we dance off into summer.

You received an email from me a few days ago with a request that you take a few minutes out of your hectic schedule to take a short survey about the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program. Your input is important to the VAPA Committee as we begin to plan for Year Two of the district's VAPA plan. In case you have not already responded to the survey, here is the link again.

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing will begin at Lincoln on Monday, May 16th. This assessment will be administered to 3rd-5th graders over the course of the next two weeks. There are two sections of the assessment - English Language Arts and Math. Both sections have two separate tests. One test is selected response where a student needs to select the correct answer(s) from a list of possible answers. The other is a performance task where students will be required to apply what they have learned to a real world situation by completing a multi-step problem. Our students have been well prepared for this assessment by their teachers.

Please make sure that your student comes to school during the testing window if at all possible. Also make sure she/he gets a good night's sleep and has a healthy breakfast. Our message to students is to stay calm and do their best work. Be aware that your student may be a little more tired each evening as they will be required to concentrate in a sustained way when testing.

Sincerely,
Pat

NEW FAMILY BUDDY PROGRAM
Seeking current Lincoln families to be a support and liaison for incoming kindergarten and transfer families.

As a Buddy family, you will reach out to the new Lincoln family over the summer and help with the transition in August. You need not be here for the whole summer to participate in the program.

Last year, most communications were done via email and some families also arranged informal get-togethers or park play dates prior to the start of school. We have lots of new families coming to Lincoln and having someone reach out to them and serve as a resource to answer any questions and provide information about Lincoln can be a big help. This is also a fun opportunity if you have a kinder sibling joining in the fall and want to meet other incoming kinders. If you are interested, please contact Melissa McGuire and Alison Pariani at lincolnbuddies@gmail.com

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN AND AROUND BURLINGAME

SCREENAGERS: GROWING UP IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time-friction she knew all too well.

In SCREENAGERS, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

Please join us for a showing of this powerful film. Parents are encouraged to attend with your students, 5th grade and up.

June 2 @ 6:30pm

Tickets: Adults $10, Students (5th Grade and up only please) - FREE
