Dear Lincoln Families,

The end of the school year is always action packed and this year is no exception. This Friday is the Lion Dance!! If you have been before, you know what a joyful evening it is. If you have not, you are in for a treat. My heart sings every year to watch all of our students line dance together. They have practiced so hard and become so good. This year will be especially poignant as it will be the final event for Lincoln's Lion Dance Queen, Mrs. Rossi. She works so hard every year preparing our students for this wonderful community event. I hope you will join our students and staff in this celebration of dance, the Lincoln community, and Mrs. Rossi.

Next week brings Dr. MacIsaac to our campus. She will be hosting a Coffee with the Superintendent event for grades K-3 parents on Tuesday, May 10th at 8:45. If the weather is good, we will meet in the garden. If not, we will meet in room 15. When you arrive, please look for signs directing you. This will be a great time, especially for our new families, to meet our superintendent and hear about the district and plans for its future. As always, we are excited to have Dr. MacIsaac at Lincoln. Please join us to hear from Dr. MacIsaac, meet other Lincoln families, and have that second cup of coffee.

Another successful Bingo Night is in the books. What a fun night for all of our families. Community events like this one are what make Lincoln so special as we come together across classrooms and grade levels to enjoy our students and each other. Thanks to Jean Gordon and her crew for another wonderful event.

Saturday was the first annual Sweetheart Dance for all Lincoln girls and their special someone. Those who attended know what a wonderful evening it was. Thanks to the hard work of MANY parents the MPR was transformed into a three dimensional Candy Land. It was a magical venue. The music was great as was evidenced by the full dance floor all night long. Our 5th grade students manned the craft tables to help our younger Lions and the photo station was very popular as well. This event is off to a great start with approximately 300 attending. I hope this successful start will inspire parents to volunteer to continue this event next year as well as add a fun event for our boys.

I want to end this letter where everything at Lincoln begins - in the classroom. This is Teacher Appreciation Week. We can all agree that our teachers at Lincoln are extraordinary. They are creative, hard-working, collaborative, and inspiring. There is no proper compensation for what they do, individually and as a team, for our students every day. With your help and support, they make miracles. Thank you to Kendra Wehmeyer and her committee for the wonderful events they have planned for this week to show our appreciation for our teachers. When you are at Lincoln this week, take a moment to thank a teacher.

Sincerely,
Pat

A MESSAGE FROM THE PTA

PTA NEWS
Last Saturday was a special night for our daughters and their parents at the First Annual Sweetheart Dance.  We want to give special thanks to the AMAZING volunteers who made it possible:
  • Ingrid Gauthier and her team of decorating pros for totally transforming the MPR into Candyland.
  • Shannon Delucchi and the dozens of parents who prepared food for the event
  • Carolyn Quilici and her photo crew for taking adorable portraits all night
  • All the broom wielding parents who helped clean up at the end
  • The 5th grade girl scout troop for planning and running the craft stations and creating the dance theme
  • Fabiola Price, event planner extraordinaire, for managing it all beautifully
  • All the attendees who enjoyed the beautiful Burlingame evening and participated in our inaugural event
This was an idea that came from the membership.  We would love to add a Lincoln Son/Parent event and are looking for individuals to take it on for 2016/17.  If there is an event you would like to run with, we welcome your input via our Parent Survey! The survey only takes 5 minutes to complete and will help shape PTA goals for next year. Complete it by this Sunday, May 8, for a chance to win a gift card.

The campus is a little more beautiful due to the efforts of Paola Lancellotti and helpers.  We appreciate the time they took on Saturday to weed around the blacktop and refresh some of the planting areas.
Have your kids been spontaneously breaking into dance?  Then they are ready for Friday night! We hope to see you all at the Lion Dance.  It takes many hands to bring these wonderful community events possible.  Please sign up to pitch in!  You'll still have plenty of time to enjoy the festivities.

If you are curious about the planned future of Lincoln Facilities, please join us tonight at 7pm in the Library for our May PTA meeting.  Our own Principal Magda will give an update of the Master Facilities Plan complete with a first draft of drawings!

Best,

Melinda & Isabelle

NEW FAMILY BUDDY PROGRAM
Seeking current Lincoln families to be a support and liaison for incoming kindergarten and transfer families. As a Buddy family, you will reach out to the new Lincoln family over the summer and help with the transition in August. You need not be here for the whole summer to participate in the program.

Last year, most communications were done via email and some families also arranged informal get-togethers or park play dates prior to the start of school. We have lots of new families coming to Lincoln and having someone reach out to them and serve as a resource to answer any questions and provide information about Lincoln can be a big help. This is also a fun opportunity if you have a kinder sibling joining in the fall and want to meet other incoming kinders. If you are interested, please contact Melissa McGuire and Alison Pariani at lincolnbuddies@gmail.com
THE LATEST FROM BCE

BCE NEWS
SVGives Day

Thank you to the Burlingame community for your donations to BCE on SVGives Day! Your participation was even more important than ever this year as we went into SVGives Day behind in our fundraising goal. All of your generous donations help us get even closer to continuing to fund the wonderful programs that are currently provided. We are hoping to raise enough money to fund new initiatives that have been identified: a district-wide STEM Director, trained lunchtime supervision resources and additional professional development for our teachers.

We didn't have final results by this newsletter deadline so you'll have to visit http://www.bcefoundation.org to see how we did! It was a great night for BCE and our schools. Thanks to everyone for your generous support!

Music Showcases

There are many wonderful music showcases that are taking place across the district right now. These amazing performances are thanks in large part to the generosity of our BCE parent donor community and all of the PTA parent volunteers. We are all so proud to support the budding musicians and artists in our schools. Enjoy the show!
