Principal's Note

Dear Lincoln Families,

Lincoln's second SEM (Schoolwide Enrichment Model) Day is today. Our teachers at each grade level have worked hard to create authentic learning experiences for all of our students.

Here is a 'tasting' of some of the projects your student may be experiencing today: kinder students will be doing a pumpkin inquiry lesson; 2nd grade students will be identifying a problem at school and deciding upon a solution; 4th grade students will be building motors as part of a study of electricity and magnetism. Please ask your student what wonderful project they worked on today.

We will have two great evenings of art in the next week. Tonight, Michelle Holdt, Director of Arts Ed Matters, will be holding her second Integrated Arts Family Night at Lincoln. Last week's evening was a huge success. I look forward to seeing all of the families that signed up for this fun evening of theater arts activities. Please wear comfortable clothes and meet us in the MPR at 6:30.

Next Thursday, 11/18, we will have the PTA-sponsored Art Reflection Art Show in the library just before the PTA meeting. This year we had over 70 submissions, many of them from students who have not submitted in the past. There are a wide array of genres represented, demonstrating the amazing talent and creativity of our students. The show begins at 6:00 in the library with the PTA meeting directly afterwards. We are lucky to have Michelle available to speak at the PTA meeting that follows the Art Show. I hope to see you there.

Picture Make-Up Day is Wednesday, 11/18. If you would like your student's picture to be retaken, please have your student return her/his picture package to the photographer that day. Any student who is new since our original picture day or who was absent that day will have his/her picture taken as well.

Our wonderful Dad's Club is sponsoring another fun movie night at Lincoln. Tomorrow, Friday, 11/13, the movie Inside Out will be shown in the MPR. Doors open at 6:00 with the movie starting at 7:00. Please see the flyer in this week's LINKS. These are always magical nights for our students, like a giant drive-in movie. This shared experience brings our students closer together. Thanks to the Dads' Club for organizing this great event.

Sincerely,
Pat

A MESSAGE FROM THE PTA

PTA NEWS
Engage and have fun

Opportunities for parent engagement abound!  The Burlingame PTA Council sponsored a fantastic parent education speaker event this past Tuesday.  Julie Lythcott-Haims spoke on "How to Raise an Adult."  Tonight, registered Lincoln families look forward to the 2nd theater arts workshop by integrated arts specialist, Michelle Holdt.  Friday night our Dads' Club will be hosting Movie Night in the MPR.  The movie is free and there is food for sale.  See the announcement below for more details.  But wait, there's more!

Art Show & PTA Meeting November 18th

November is Art Month at Lincoln.  This is Lincoln's 3rd year participating in the Art Reflections program and it was another record turnout.  There were submissions in every category!  We hope to see you at the evening or morning art show along with the student artists.

Come for the art and stay for the PTA meeting. The PTA meeting will start at 7 pm in the library. In addition to the PTA updates and a word from Principal Magda, our guest speaker will be Michelle Holdt.  We want to thank Michelle and her cohorts for providing professional development for our teachers and educating parents on the new Integrated Arts curriculum.

Lastly, if your school portrait needs a "do-over," remember picture re-takes are 11/18.

We hope you enjoyed the midweek holiday.  We thank all the Veterans in our community for their service.

Best,
Melinda & Isabelle

BCE NEWS
We continue our "Meet the Site Directors" series by introducing Lincoln's very own Katie Herstein. Please click here to get to know Katie and other BCE board members.

Interested in making a big impact on the BCE fundraising campaign in a short period of time? Consider becoming this year's Live Auction Chair at the BCE Dinner Dance & Auction held in the spring. The live auction generates the most excitement of the evening, and you will have an opportunity to work with our dynamic auctioneer.

What does the Live Auction Chair do?

* Manage all aspects of the live auction before and during the event.

* Work with the auctioneer and BCE leadership to develop ideas for a live auction slate.

* Solicit items from businesses (with the help of the business solicitation team, district families,       and the BCE Board of Directors).

* Write exciting descriptions and use enticing photos to create a live auction slide show for the         event.  If you are interested in becoming the Live Auction Chair or assisting this team, please let     us know at info@bcefoundation.org. It won't happen without you!

NOVEMBER FOOD DRIVE
Donations Needed Next Week

Due to rapidly increasing rents and grocery costs, roughly 35% of San Mateo County School children qualify for the National School Lunch Program -- grocery assistance is greatly needed in our community.

Next week, November 16-20, Burlingame Public Schools will be collecting non-perishable food items for Call Primrose, our local grocery assistance organization.

Show thanks this holiday season by giving what you can! Please send your donations of canned or dry food items with your children to school before Friday, November 20.  For more information see the attached flyer or visit www.callprimrose.org to learn about more ways you can help. Thank you!
