Principal's Note

Dear Lincoln Families:

Our 4th & 5th grade students did a great job of kicking off the holiday season last evening. They brought light and joy to all of us with their incredibly polished performances.  The apparent ease of these performances belied the hard work students, teachers, and music parents put in to this amazing evening of music and song. Congratulations to our students for their hard work and diligent practice.

Thank you to their teachers, Ari Brown and Carol Prater, for developing our students' musical abilities through patient instruction. Thank you to their accompanists, Yongyu Gao, Patty Rossi, and Doy Prater, for modeling the benefits of lifelong music learning. Thank you also to our Music Coordinators, Leslie Tong and Judy Vina, for making sure that this is a wonderful experience for the entire Lincoln community. Finally, thank you to BCE and the Liechti Foundation for their continued support of our music program.

The Lincoln website has a new addition. We have added a 'Common Core Corner' in the bottom left-hand corner of the home page. I will use this link on the website to share Common Core implementation news and make available resources that might be of interest to you. Right now there is one video that clearly explains the benefits of the shifts in math instruction brought by Common Core. There is another that explains the shifts in literacy instruction. Please check the Common Core Corner periodically for updates.

It is time for the Giving Tree once again. This is a wonderful opportunity to share with our students the joy and deep satisfaction that can come from helping others in need. Please check out the tree in the main office and join with your students in sharing the spirit of the season.

Please remember that tomorrow, Friday, 12/5, is a minimum day. All students will be dismissed at 1:30pm.

Sincerely,

Pat

NOTES FROM THE PTA

WINTER CONCERT, YARD DUTY AND HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

Lincoln Musicians Sing Their Hearts Out

A BIG THANKS to Judy Vina and Leslie Tong, for the many hours they spent leading up to the 4th and 5th grade Winter Concert last night. Our 136 member band and our 4th and 5th grade choir were amazing! We'd also like to thank the many volunteers, who came out on Monday morning to decorate the BIS Auditorium -  transforming it into a winter wonderland. And one more shout of thanks to all the parents who came out on such short notice to drive the kids back to Lincoln after Wednesday morning's rehearsal!

Give to the Giving Tree

The Lincoln Giving Tree is back  - thank you Rachel Goodrich for setting it up this year. Please stop by the office before Dec 16th to check out which gift card you would like to purchase to help out a family in need.

Yard Duty

Even though wet weather is upon us, we still need to have volunteers filling our Yard and Lunch Duty openings. Please be sure your classroom staffs these shifts. Even if it's not your classroom's turn, feel free to signup -- your help is always appreciated!

Staff Holiday Gifts

In addition to our wonderful teachers, Lincoln also has an incredible staff which supports our kids - teaching PE and music, helping with speech and reading or even just offering a kind smile or needed bandaid. If you'd like to join others to show your appreciation to these hard working souls, please place any amount you feel appropriate in the envelope in the office marked "Staff Gifts."

And finally, don't forget this Friday is early dismissal day - all students get out at 1:30pm.
