Praise Reports and Prayer Needs From Around the Globe
Dear Friends,
What a joy to know that no matter where we live, our prayers can be an effective weapon on behalf of our brothers and sisters around the world. This update includes a number of praise reports and prayer requests from advocates in many different countries.
First is a prayer request from Bulgaria. Our dear friend and brother, Latcho Popov, President of Advocates Europe, has asked for prayers for the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Bulgaria scheduled for this Sunday, May 12. The situation in the country is more tense than normal, and Latcho's hope is that the newly elected government will nominate a strong government to serve the nation and not succumb to partisan politics. Second, we want to share a special prayer request for traveling mercies for all of those heading to Montevideo, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires, Argentina for the 11th Regional Conference of
Advocates Latin America (FIAJC) and the formal registration of FIAJC as an NGO under Uruguayan law. Please pray for wisdom for the election of new board members of FIAJC and for encouragement for all those who will be coming together along the banks of the La Plata River for these key meetings. We begin our meetings on 16 May in Uruguay and then travel together by ferry to Argentina on 17 May. The conference runs through 19 May.
Third is a praise report from CLS attorney Ben Chappell from San Antonio, Texas regarding the success of the 3rd Christian lawyer conference held last month in the DRC (Congo). Advocates International played a key role in the first two Congo conferences.
"The new Christian Lawyer Associations from Beni, Butembo and Bunia all gave reports, and shared in small groups, and they have clearly taken off since the 2010 conference! Literally, prisoners are being freed (50 in Bunia alone), Christian lawyers and judges are, in their words, "renouncing corruption" (wonderful testimonies of specific cases) and a whole host of public forums teaching the Congolese public about the laws (that are on the books to protect them but which the Congolese lawyers say are not well known by the people) are being held. It is so gratifying to see the indigenous Christian lawyers and judges (more judges at this conference by far than in 2008 and 2010) now taking ownership and leadership of these new associations to begin impacting their cities, their courts and their systems." We'll be sharing more about this exciting conference in Congo in future emails. Finally, a request from Trinidad & Tobago, located in the Caribbean just off the coast of Venezuela. AI Global Council member and President of Lawyers for Jesus in Trinidad, Justice Alice Soo Hon, asks that we pray for her country:
"The corruption has soared to enormous heights. The crime is frightening and we are seeing diminishing of values daily. The move for gay rights has intensified and abortion is still on the table. The Government has prepared a draft policy and are seeking to legislate soon. Pray that the Church would rise up and that christian lawyers would be committed to stand against the evil one and that God would bring healing and restoration to our land." We are grateful for your continued prayers and financial support for the work of Advocates. Thank you. May the Lord bless and keep you in His perfect . . . Grace and peace,
Brent McBurney President & CEO Advocates International

Thank You for Your Financial Support

AI is not a recipient of government funding and is solely dependent upon the financial contributions of those who believe in its mission, thereby enabling it to serve "clients" ranging from heads of state seeking to implement constitutional reforms to persecuted and imprisoned believers sentenced to death for their faith. We are most grateful and thank you for whatever financial support or voluntary service you can provide in support of AI's mission. Here's how you can help: (more)
