Dear Friends,
Please join with us in continuing to pray for our brothers and sisters in Pakistan who are facing possible death penalty for blasphemy charges. We received the following update and prayer request from our friends at CLAAS:
The court hearing of Younis Masih's case came on today on 26 February 2013 for final arguments on the appeal against punishment (death sentence). Mr. Joseph Francis, National Director of CLAAS, was personally present in the court along with CLAAS lawyer's team consisting of Mr. Naeem Shakir Advocate, Supreme Court of Pakistan; Mr. Tahir Bashir, Advocate High Court; Mr. Nasir Anjum, Advocate High Court; Mr. Tanveer Gill, Advocate High Court and CLAAS staff Mr. Asher Sarfraz (Field Officer), Mr. Sohail Habel (Accounts Officer) and Court Clerks Aqeel and Ayaz.
Lead counsel, Mr. Naeem Shakir, started arguments before the Honourable Mr. Justice Kh. Imtiaz Ahmad and Mr. Justice Ali Baqar Najafi (Lahore High Court double bench) which continued for 1 hour 30 minutes. The opposing lawyer and State Lawyer tried to interject but the Judges asked them to wait and listened to the arguments of the defence lawyers. At 1: 30 pm the court was adjourned and the further hearing of this case is fixed for tomorrow - 27 February 2013. CLAAS has taken up the legal case of Martha Bibi a victim of blasphemy, which is also fixed for February 27, 2013 for arguments in the Session Court of Lahore. The Zaffar Bhatti /Ghazala Khan Blasphemy case is fixed on February 27, 2013 in High Court of Lahore for the hearing of Ghazala Khan's pre-arrest bail.
Dear prayer brother and sisters we strongly ask your prayers for the release of these brothers and sisters who are involved in fake blasphemy accusations and suffering for years. Their families live hide and hardly ménage their food and residence. Pray for the learned judges, May the Lord our God give them courage to give fair findings and bold decisions in the cases and that GOD give wisdom to the lawyers to speak courageously while they argue in the court for these victims of faith.
Thanks again for your continued prayers for Advocates around the globe who are representing people facing persecution.
May the Lord bless and keep you in His perfect. . .
Grace and Peace,
 Brent McBurney
