Serving Those Who Serve The Homeless
Coalition Awarded Funding in Recent HUD Announcement

On May 2, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) made a FY 2015 Continuum of Care Program Competition grant awards announcement. The Way Home Continuum of Care (CoC) will receive funding for all of its renewal and new project requests made, bringing more than $32 Million for 45 local homeless housing and service programs in Houston, Pasadena, Harris County, and Fort Bend County. This is an $8.4 Million increase in funding from 2014.

The Coalition for the Homeless serves as the collaborative applicant for the CoC Program Competition, and was itself awarded funding in the May 2 announcement to support its lead agency services and management of Coordinated Access and HMIS.

Coalition Staff Attend National Data Conference

Coalition HMIS staff Yvette Fuentes (HMIS Trainer), Karen Flores (HMIS Program Support), and Kelita Beechum (HMIS Support Manager) attended the National Human Services Data Consortium (NHSDC) Spring Conference April 13-14, in Los Angeles, CA.

Sessions at the NHSDC Conference covered topics such as navigating privacy regulations, how to grow participation in HMIS, and how to work with other data systems. Coalition staff members were also able to participate in an open session where community members brainstormed and developed recommendations to pass along to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Melanie Pang, a staff member with The Salvation Army - Houston Social Services wrote a wonderful guest post about the conference for our HMIS e-newsletter; click here to read the full post.
