Serving Those Who Serve The Homeless
2016 Point-In-Time Homeless Count & Survey is a Wrap!

The Coalition for the Homeless led the 2016 Point-In-Time Homeless Count & Survey on January 26, 27 & 28 throughout Houston, Harris County and Fort Bend County.

This year's effort differed from how the count was conducted in years past. Instead of a purely visual count done from cars, this year partner agency staff membersand community volunteers canvassed on foot, and conducted brief, conversational surveys with homeless individuals. This methodology will not only ensure a more accurate count, but will also provide us with detailed demographic information about our homeless citizens, allowing our homeless response system to continue to pinpoint gaps and needs to ensure that every homeless individual has access to housing.

This year's Count & Survey took place over three days instead of one. Day 1 focused on Houston inside of the 610 Loop, Day 2 covered western Harris County and all of Fort Bend County, eastern Harris County was the focus of Day 3. The Count was also conducted during the day, with surveyors beginning at 6:00 am and canvassing until their area was complete.

We would also like to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped with this year's effort! More than 200 partner agency staff members and community volunteers participated in this year's expanded Count & Survey, and this endeavor absolutely would not have been a success without their participation.
