The annual Count & Survey would not be possible without the time and commitment of hundreds of community volunteers like you, and we are still in need of volunteers for our survey teams!

This year's Homeless Count & Survey will take place during the day on January 26, 27 & 28, 2016. Volunteers will help as team drivers, navigators, spotters, and assisting our highly-trained surveyors.

Please visit the Coalition's webpage for more information about the expanded Count & Survey, for FAQs, and to sign up to volunteer today!
A New Homeless Count & Survey

The annual Homeless Count & Survey is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and allows our community to get a snapshot of the scope of homelessness in our community and to measure our progress from year-to-year. For the past several years, the unsheltered homeless count has been conducted on one evening in January; however, the 2016 Count & Survey will see some big changes! The 2016 Count & Survey will take place on three days: January 26, 27 & 28, and will occur during the day (instead of in the evening).

The reason for the changes in this year's Homeless Count & Survey is to support the successes of the homeless response system in Houston, Harris County, and Fort Bend County. Since 2011, our community has seen a nearly 50% reduction in overall homelessness, and earlier this year, Houston announced that it was the first major city to effectively end veteran homelessness! We expect to continue to see decreases across the board again in 2016.

For more information on the changes, you can read our FAQs about the Count & Survey
The Proof is in the Numbers...

Since the month of January is all about the Point-In-Time Homeless Count & Survey here at the Coalition, we're taking a look back at the progress we have made over the past few years. Overall homelessness has decreased by nearly half since 2011 (4,609 in 2015, compared with 8,538 in 2011), chronic homelessness has decreased by more than 50% since 2011, and last June, Houston announced that it was the largest city to effectively end Veteran homelessness!
