Coalition Staff Present at National Conferences

The Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County has had multiple staff members present at conferences throughout Texas and the rest of the U.S. to share insights and information on behalf of The Way Home and the collaboration of its more than 70 partners.

One of our staff members who has recently participated in several conference presentations is Gary Grier, Project Manager with the Coalition. Gary presented and moderated a panel on Rapid Re-housing (RRH) and Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) at the National Conference on Ending Homelessness in July, and will present at two more national conferences this fall: the True Colors Fund's 40 to None Summit in September, and the 2015 National Dropout Prevention Network Conference in October.

The Coalition is proud to share the knowledge, experience, and collaboration of the partners of The Way Home with those working to end homelessness across the nation.
The Proof is in the Numbers...

Partners of The Way Home recently completed an 11 day Homeless Engagement Initiative in which Coordinated Access housing assessors, trained outreach staff, and community volunteers hit the streets to interview panhandlers, homeless individuals, and others to gather information and refer them to appropriate services. The effort covered a different Houston City Council District each day, and was held
August 17 - 31 (excluding weekends).

Much more thorough data will be available later, but the preliminary results can be found to the left. This effort was the first of multiple phases. The Way Home will take its learnings from this initiative and complete additional phases throughout the rest of Harris County and all of Fort Bend County.

A special thank you the community volunteers who made this possible, and to the organizations that provided trained assessors and outreach staff who participated every day: Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County, Houston Area Community Services, Houston Police Department's Homeless Outreach Team, SEARCH Homeless Services, and Star of Hope.
