Volunteers Needed: 2015 Point-In-Time Homeless Count
The Count: January 22, 2015, 5:30 - 11:30 pm
Volunteer Orientation: January 15, 2015, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Location: one of ten staging areas throughout Houston, Harris County, and Fort Bend County
The annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for our local Continuum of Care funding process, which brought more than $24 million to the Houston, Harris County, and Fort Bend County homeless assistance programs in the FY2013 application process.
On the night of the 2015 PIT Homeless Count, volunteers will be placed at designated staging areas across Houston, Harris County, and Fort Bend County, and teams will be deployed by 5:30 pm. Each staging area will have highly trained volunteer Captains and Co-Captains who will be available throughout the night for questions and assistance during the count. There will be at least four people per team: one driver, one navigator, and two counters.
We look forward to seeing you in January!

Building Better Services with Medicaid
The Coalition for the Homeless is offering a training called "Building Better Services with Medicaid" on Wednesday, December 17, from 1:30 - 3:30 pm, at the Harris County Department of Education (6300 Irvington Blvd., Room 502). Registration is limited to 70 individuals; click here to reserve your spot online.
For many individuals and families, success in housing depends on the availability of supportive and health care services to help retain housing and use housing as a platform for health, well-being, and recovery. HUD has recently expressed the need for improving program participant access and effective utilization of mainstream healthcare services at the systems level. This training will be an introduction to Medicaid resources and coordinating care and services among case managers and available primary, preventative, and behavioral health care services through United and other Managed Care Organizations who insure individuals on Medicaid.
CEUs will be offered for LMSWs, LPCs, and LCDCs. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Gary Grier at ggrier@homelesshouston.org or 832-531-6006. |
