HARVEST FESTIVAL

2014 Harvest Fest

Despite the rain in the morning, It was a beautiful day on the farm.  This year's Harvest Festival really felt like a day spent on the farm with our farmers. Our farm staff made green smoothies. our volunteers used farm ingredients in the fantastic food.  Hayrides and the bug safari were giant hits.

2014 Localicious Honorees

Pennypack Farm's annual Localicious celebration took place last week, and it was a big success! More than 160 farm friends came out to Spring Mill Country Club for an amazing dinner, auction, and awards.  We honored Missy Barnhart, PFEC Volunteer of the Year, and Judy and Mark Dornstreich as our Sustainable Living Leaders.

2014 Localicious

Thanks to generous donors, we hit our overall budget of $13,000, including  nearly $5,000 towards a new tractor.  Farm Director Andy Andrews told us a great story about how PFEC is causing traffic jams across Upper Dublin Township every time we move a tractor from site to site - yikes! (We didn't quite hit the goal for the tractor, so donations are still welcome!)

2014 Localicious

The silent auction looked beautiful - better than ever, thanks to the efforts of many dedicated volunteers, and the generosity of many donors. The food was truly localicious: Chef Nick didn't finish the menu until he knew exactly which vegetables were available that week.  Everything was delicious, from roasted apricot-sesame-tat soi to hubbard squash crisp!

We had many wonderful sponsors and advertisers for the event.  Please pick up a copy of the program during your share pick up, or download a copy here.  Let our advertisers know how much you appreciate their support of local organic agriculture!

A few more thank yous...

Round Guys Round Guys Brewery in Lansdale donated the beer for Localicious!  We got to try a new variety, and we kicked the keg!  Be sure to stop by their pub for great beer and food, along with music and trivia.

Cheryl Wilks of Flowers on Location (and a farm member!) did a wonderful job on the centerpieces and décor!

PASAPASA - the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture - was a wonderful part of the evening, sharing stories about our award winners.

Last but not least, sponsors Susan and Michael Schurr and Thrivent Financial made the evening a success!
