FARM TO TABLE DINNER

2014 Farm to Table

Our second annual Farm To Table Dinner was a tremendous success!

Drinks, dinner, dessert... everything was delicious.  Thank yous especially to our completely volunteer team: Executive Chef: Matt Beck. Dessert Chef: Meghan Coleman, Bartender: Lauren Sadler, Caterer: Liz De Francesco, Creative Genius: Heather Hahn Sullivan and a wonderful group of servers, flower arrangers, and gofers. Beer donated by craft brewer Brian Winthrop and breads donated by Alice Bakery. Special thanks to Monika Hemmers and Steve Heimann for allowing us to use their beautiful home.

There will be another one next summer.. don't miss out!

Proceeds from the dinner support our food donations programs.

SALSA TIME!

Salsa Time!  Ambler YMCA campers selected fresh ingredients, most of which were grown at the farm, for their salsa creation.  The kids followed a basic recipe and made it their own using herbs, spices and varying the ingredients.  Each group presented their dish to their counselor/judges - tough job but someone has to try all those wonderful salsas!  This class has become a camper favorite and we'll be making it this week with the Hatboro-Horsham YMCA Farm Campers.

WORKSHARE OPPORTUNITY
Jenkintown Farmer's Market

Pennypack has recently started going to the Jenkintown Farmer's Market on Tuesday evenings.  We are looking for someone to help one of the farmer's work the stand.  The shift is from 5:00 pm until about 9:30 pm.  You would meet us at the Highlands, our location in Fort Washington, to load and then hop in the truck to drive over to Jenkintown.  As a work share, this would be in exchange for a 6 unit share.  If you are interested in doing this as your 'share duty' hours, we can also work that out.

If you are interested please contact ray@pennypackfarm.org.

SCHOOL GARDENS
By Diane Diffenderfer

Over the course of the last year, I've been working with a few local school garden programs. It's nice to see so many schools embracing the importance of having kids learn about nutrition and exactly where their food comes from.  If you think your child's school would be interested in some help setting up and/or maintaining a school garden, I'd love to talk with someone at the school - just email me with the particulars and I'll get in touch.

Enjoy the rest of summer - can't believe kids will be headed back to school in a few short weeks.
