FOCUS GROUP

We would like to thank the 35+ CSA members who came to our CSA Focus Group last Wednesday. As part of our strategic planning process, our directors: Margot Bradley (Administrative Director) and Andy Andrews (Farming Director) invited a cross section of CSA members to come out and tell us how we can make their CSA experience even better. Lots of ideas were discussed including flexible pickup times, monthly credit card payment options, chances to create the perfect sized share and more... We learned quite a bit and you will all see some changes in the coming year.

Thank you again,

Margot and Andy

Cob Oven Building Workshop!

Cob Oven

Tue, July 8 & Wed, July 9

at The Highlands - Rain or Shine

We'll be building a cob oven in the Edible Classroom!  Brick oven pizza with farm-fresh ingredients is just a few short months away.

We'll be working on the oven from 8:30 - 5:30 each day.  You can drop by and help out, stay as long as you want.  We'll be forming the oven from sand and then covering it with cob, a mixture of clay, sand and straw.  The clay is from the Edible Classroom and we mix it with our feet!

SIgi Koko, principal at Build Naturally (www.buildnaturally.com) will lead the Workshop.

Donations are welcome to help defray the Workshop fee and materials costs.

In September, we'll have a big 'ol pizza party to celebrate the oven and all our hard work.

Feel free to drop by anytime; however, if you know in advance that you'll be stopping by, please send an email to Diane (education@pennypackfarm.og) so she has a sense of how many folks will be joining.

Feel free to bring a picnic lunch and hang for a bit in the EC.  Great way to spend a few hours with your friends and family!

WORK SHARE IN THE EC
Edible Classroom
Workshares are still available for 2 or 3 more folks who might be interested in working in the Edible Classrooms as a work share.  Primary tasks will be weeding, planting, harvesting and general garden maintenance.  In addition, some people are opting to complete their 4 hours of share duty in either the Horsham or Highlands EC.  If you interested in working in the EC, please send an email to Diane at: education@pennypackfarm.org .
NOTES FROM THE EDIBLE CLASSROOM
By Diane Diffenderfer

College Settlement Camp Kids are Back! - I hear them before I catch sight of a single camper.  They are walking from CSC to the farm, preparing for a walk down the farm lane.  I join them in the parking lot and together we walk to the Edible Classroom.  This year the CSC campers have a few beds in the Horsham EC - replete with Sungold Cherry Tomatoes, multi color string beans, basil and cabbage.

The kids sampled 2 types of mint -  spearmint and peppermint (spearmint was fav).  We were on an herb roll, so we also tasted dill and fennel. Smiles all around!  We scrounged some asparagus and checked out the irrigation system.  I said good bye as they headed to the pump house.  Now it feels like summer...

HORSHAM UPDATE
From Farmer Devin
Horsham Crops

The season is moving right along at horsham. We have been pleased with the weather thus far. It seems like when ever it gets hot for a few days we get a thunder shower that cools us down and waters all the crops nicely. It looks like we'll be in a warm stretch over the next ten days with little rain which means we will rely on our irrigation system to keep things watered.

Our summer crops look very good as we sit. I am particularly pleased with our onions. In the next few weeks you will see some fabulous sweet onions.

I hope everyone is enjoying their share so far, we have lots of great crops coming up over the next few weeks!
