So we're about to charge ahead into the remaining eleven months of 2014. We need fuel.
Here are two elements to help us make it with energy to spare: Perspective & breathing room.
First, Rick Rowe shares some perspective on what worship ministry is and what it isn't. Rick lives out his passion for authentic, Christ-honoring worship in the local church by serving with Ad Lib Music as a Worship Coach. Drop him a line at Rick@adlibmusic.com.
Second, I love the line "I've got a river of life flowing out of me...it makes the lame to walk and the blind to see, opens prison doors, sets the captives free, I've got a river of life flowing out of me!" Life and freedom follow us when we live with roots that tap into the underground waters of worship!
We had our first breathing room...a night TO worship in early January. We're going to try something for the balance of 2014.
On the 10th of each month, we'll gather at different venues for a unique gathering. Unscripted. Simple. Lingering. Requiring. Click here to see what they'll be like. Stay tuned for locations, but mark your calendar for a breathing room...a night TO worship on the 10th of each month.

Worship Ministry: What It Is And What It Isn't
It took me quite a while to figure that out.
As a worship leader in a church (or "Minister Of Music" or "Pastor Of Creative Arts" or "Leader Of People Who Use Music To Lead Others In Worship" or whatever name churches choose to call the person in that position....whew!), it's easy to complicate things and lose sight of what we are called to do in the first place.
The nature of the job itself has so many distractions to pull your attention away from...well... paying attention!
There are so many relatively minor facets competing for your time and energy that the crown jewel can become unnoticed and forgotten. Meetings, planning, scheduling, rehearsals, budgets, conflict resolution, etc. can be so overwhelming that the reason you signed up in the first place becomes just a fuzzy memory.
It happened to me.
So I had to make a list. It's something that helps me see through all the necessary distractions inherent with the job and put things back into perspective when things get out of focus.
"Worship Ministry: What It Is And What It Isn't"
- IT IS a chance to use the gifts God has entrusted me with to make Him famous
- IT ISN'T a platform from which to become famous
- IT IS a chance for me to bring my first fruits and best gifts both musically and relationally as a humble offering of praise to my King
- IT ISN'T a place to serve leftovers
- IT IS a chance to thank God for giving me real significance
- IT ISN'T a way in which I hope to find my significance
- IT IS a place to honor authority unconditionally
- IT ISN'T a place where all must agree
- IT IS a place to show love and compassion to the body of believers I serve by sharing an authentic love for Christ in my worship leading
- IT ISN'T a venue to merely produce music
So that's it. That's my list. What would be yours? If things are getting a little hazy in your ministry, why not make your own little list right now? I'd love to see it. Email me at Rick@adlibmusic.com.
