Fit Art Into Your Fall Schedule
Enrollment is happening now for fall art classes at CityArts that extend through the end of the year. This fall at CityArts, you'll find:       

 

Classes for youth ages 6-16 and adults; 

ArtCore sessions for youth when school is out for Veteran's Day and Winter Break; 

New three-week silversmithing mini sessions in December; 

New four-day classes in Advanced Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Adobe Lightroom, Advanced Website Design

Glassblowing classes (CityArts is the only place that offers them in the region) and more. 

 

CityArts scholarships funded by the Arts Council are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Scholarship applications may be picked up at CityArts or downloaded online.

One-Day Art Experiences

Oct. 11: Free Adult & Me Workshop with themed "It's Pumpkin Season!" make-it-and-take-it art project, 10 a.m.-noon, Main Gallery.

Oct. 18: Create Your Own Newspaper Painting, co-sponsored by CityArts and The Wichita Eagle, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Main Gallery. All finished pieces will be put on display on the third floor to view throughout the season. 

Oct. 31: Leonardo Da Vino adult painting workshop, 7-9 p.m. 

Nov. 8: Free Adult & Me Workshop with themed "Giving Thanks" make-it-and-take-it art project, 10 a.m.-noon, Main Gallery.

Nov. 11: Veteran's Day ArtCore class for youth, 9 a.m.-noon (Crayon Meltdown) and 1-4 p.m. (Optical Art) Students staying the whole day will need to bring a lunch.
 
Nov. 14: Leonardo Da Vino adult mosaics workshop, 7-9 p.m.

The following exhibits will be on display Aug. 29 through Sept. 28.  Admission is free to CityArts' exhibition galleries that are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday; 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Final Friday; and 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday.

The Mid-America All-Indian Center and Friends Culture Dash 2014 is a 5K running and walking event on Saturday, Nov. 1 that celebrates Day of the Dead while encouraging participants - from the littlest to the oldest - to pay attention to their health. Museum Exhibit Opening Oct. 18

The Indian Center is celebrating the opening of its newest exhibit "The Art of Creating Sacred" with special $1 Museum admission for all ages from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.

 

"The Art of Creating Sacred" exhibit features ceremonial pipes and pipe bags made between 1870-1900 that are part of the Indian Center's permanent artifact collection. The display focuses on the technique of making pipes and pipe bags and provides a detailed explanation as to why pipes are held sacred within the American Indian community.  

 

Visitors who attend the opening are also encouraged to enjoy the other exhibits on display at the Museum that that build understanding about American Indian history in Wichita and appreciation for the range of American Indian traditions, beliefs and way of life held sacred by tribes from around the country. American Indian Food Sampling

The "Share Our Food" program at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 will engage the senses as guests hear about the history of American Indian food, smell the delicious aroma in the air and taste the finished dishes for themselves.

Spooky Trick-Or-Treating
What goes bump in the night at Old Cowtown Museum? Bring your child to "A Night of Hay, Hooves and Halloween" from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 to find out.

Spooky, family-friendly Halloween fun will be waiting for them up and down Cowtown's eerie roads. Costumes are optional and admission is $5 for everyone. ... (read more)
 

Empire Hall Exhibit

Cowtown is famous for its gunfights and saloon girls, but it's also home to some thought-provoking special exhibits that are housed year-round inside Empire Hall.

Victorian Courtship and Marriage
Learn about the variety of customs pertaining to courtship and marriage in the 19th century and the ways in which gender roles influenced some of these customs.

Cowtown's Empire House Live! 2014 performance series continues with shows that are full of laughter and magic.
